Drive unmounting itself - A device which does not exist was specified

Having some issues with a drive. I think it keeps unmounting itself which in turn means I can't access any files on it. It shows up in disk management sometimes and sometimes doesn't. I can see some the folders on explorer but if I select any of them I get the message 'A device which does not exist was specified'.This drive is a 2TB Samsung 980 Pro. I've had this issue before and it comes and goes. Completely reinstalling windows seems to solve the issue for a bit but it eventually comes back. I really don't know what the issue could be. I've updated BIOS and have tried various CMD commands to

  2. A device which does not exist was specified

I ran into this error - A device which does not exist was specified - while trying to access an SSD from Windows console (running a directory listing). I believe the sequence of events leading up to it was the SSD wasunplugged and replugged in after which I reran the listing from a console window already open on the drive.

The solution seemed to be to navigate to a different drive and back again (in console) and then the listing ran fine without throwing the error.

Problem solved (for me at least). But I wanted to ask this question so that others could discover a possible solution. I found only one other reference to this error (*) and the thread had been closed.

    Thanks very much.

    * correction: there are many references to this error - I only found a single result because I mistyped a plural: A devices which does not exist was specified

  3. Windows 10 shutdown doesn't unmount despite......

    Hi,

Thank you for the update and I apologize for the late response.

I appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down to the issue.

    • How exactly you are trying to unmount the drive. Is it through Command prompt or from Disk management?

    • What exactly happens when you try to unmount?

    • Did you receive any error message while trying to unmount?
I suggest you to try the steps given below and check if it helps.

Please close all the Windows before trying the steps.

    • Open Disk management.

    • Right-click the mounted drive that you want to remove, and then click
      Change Drive Letter and Paths.

    • Click Remove, and then click Yes.
Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help.

    Thank you.

AMD Chipset Install Error: 1316, The Specified Account Already Exists

In Device manager, most of those from that list are signed as Microsoft drivers, probably for compatibility purposes, just like disk drive drivers.
These are only ones from that list that I can find that is signed as AMD.
