Windows 10: Driver/hardware issues.

Hello

My old mentor built me a gaming desktop a little over a year ago and there is one big issue that I have been trying to figure out but I can't find any solutions that work.

Here are the specs of my computer before I begin:

OS: Windows 10 PRo

System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.

System Model: GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0

Processor: AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor

It has a SD host adapter. It says the device is ARM Holdings PL180 Secure Digital host controller.

The problem I am having is that when I plug in a SD card, it freezes my computer or it doesn't read the SD card.

I opened "Device Manager" and looked for the device but I noticed it wasn't there so I clicked on "Action" and then clicked on "Add Legacy Hardware." From there it searched for hardware and I found "SD Host Adapters." That's actually where I got some sort of name for the device in my computer. It says that the manufacturers are ARM Holdings, Intel, and Ricoh.

I tried to install drivers for it but I got a message saying "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

I looked up the two companies that I wasn't familiar with, ARM Holdings and Ricoh and I tried to look for the device on their websites but I could not find anything. I could not find pictures of it and I really couldn't find any information on it at all. I did find a few sites with drivers available but I do not feel comfortable downloading those from websites other than from the manufacturers.

Also, I opened "System Information" and under "Components," I saw a tab "Problem Devices." I clicked on it and sure enough, it listed "ARM Holdings PL180 Secure Digital host controller."

I have a couple questions that I have looked everywhere for the answers and solutions but I just can't find anything.

Does anyone know why my computer freezes when I plug a SD card into it?

Why can't Windows load the drivers required for the device?

What are ARM Holdings and Ricoh? Are the legit and real companies?

Also, where can I find the correct drivers that are 100% safe to download?

Did I make any mistakes while trying to fix this? (I am still learning how to troubleshoot and fix computers so I am no where near a professional. I am actually teaching myself for now). If I did make a mistake, would should/could I have done differently?

I need some guidance and directions to follow so I can fix this issue.

1. What is the make and model of the computer?

I suggest you to try the steps listed in
troubleshoot blue screen errors and check if it works.

Meanwhile you may also go through:

1. troubleshoot CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION
2. troubleshoot CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
3. troubleshoot SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: I suggest you to run the hardware troubleshooter as below and check if it helps.

• Type in search bar as control panel.
• Then select troubleshooting.
• Click on hardware and sound option.
• Then click on “hardware and devices “and follow the on screen instructions.

Method 2: I suggest you to uninstall the network drivers as below steps.

• Press Windows+X and select “Device manager”.
• Then expand the Network adapters.
• Right click on the driver and uninstall it.

And then go to the manufacturers website download the network drivers, install it and check if the issue persists.

I would suggest you to try the below methods and check if it helps:

Method 1: I would suggest you to run “Hardware and Devices” troubleshooter to diagnose the exact issue.

Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter:

• Press “Windows key + X”.
• Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the Search box and hit enter.
• Select “Hardware and Sound” from the Troubleshooter Window.
• Select “Hardware and Devices” under Devices option.

Method 2: Also I suggest you to
Update speaker and audio drivers from the computer manufacturer's website
and check the issue.
