Windows 10: Driver power state failure 00000000`00000003

Hey,

So I have a new build which I put together about 3 weeks ago. At first I was running on integrated graphics it was stable enough. Last week I received a MSI Gaming X GTX 1070. Since then the system has become fairly unstable. It will either just cut out all together or give a BSOD with the driver power failure message on it and then reboots.

I tried to decipher the crash logs but couldn't make sense of it! Things I have tried are:

• Uninstalling chipset and graphics drivers. Have tried 3 different versions of geforce drivers but with same result.
• Restored bios to "optimised defaults". When I first built pc I stupidly ran the 5 way optimisation that is part of the Asus AI suite 3. This overclocks the pc automatically. After realising my mistake I have tried to since undo all the changes it made. Even today used the CLR_CMOS function on the motherboard. It hasn't changed the crashing so hopefully unrelated/#

Next thing was going to try is a complete fresh install of windows and perhaps just load up the minimum of drivers and try installing in stages to see if can isolate the problem.

BSOD with error messgae 0x000001d8

Hi Gerry,

Sorry for the late response. I have uploaded 5 latest minidump files and system info file to onedrive. Here is the link-

I tried updating all my drivers using device manager. Also the Qualcomm Atheros network adapter. Still no luck.

I also tried analyzing the dump files myself with online tools and got the following
report-

 

Win 10 Lenovo Flex 3 BSOD 0x000001d8

I have a Lenovo Flex 3 (8GB RAM, i5, 2.2GHz processor)- Windows 10 (updated to latest)

I keep having a blue screen crash regularly with the message 0x000001d8

This has happened before too, I updated various drivers through the device manager which fixed it then.

It is happening again and I don't know what to do now.

It also can make good drivers fail at times so turning it off is the first step.

Hadn't ever heard of driver verifier but went ahead and tried to turn it off. When I started it up via windows and tried to delete settings as per guide it said no changes were going to be made and all options were selected as no when go into settings. I tried the method by rebooting into recovery mode and disabling from there.

As a test yesterday I uninstalled all graphics drivers and left just the microsoft standard display driver and it stayed up for over 10 hours.

I have now reinstalled the latest geforce drivers 386.69 so will keep my fingers crossed it actually manages to stay up for more than a few hours.

Crashed after 2 hours with nvidia drivers *Sad. Have tried using DDU to remove all graphics drivers as was using iGpu initially but still no good. Going to try a full reinstall of windows and take it from there.

 

How did you try to disable Driver Verifier?

Did you get here?

Yep I got to that stage and when I said to delete settings it said there were no changes to be made. The reinstall of windows has seemed to solve the problem. The sytstem has been stable with nvidia drivers loaded for 18 hours now. I think a combination of the crazy auto overclocking and asus motherboard bundled software was causing an issues as well. Have just installed drivers with no bundled motherboard bits and all is working fine.
