Windows 10: Drives Marked Read Only

Discus and support Drives Marked Read Only in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; I have several hard drives on my PCs; some are physical, some are partitions.     Drives Marked Read Only


    I have several hard drives on my PCs; some are physical, some are partitions. In every PC I've upgraded, W10 marks these as RO. I go through the ritual of setting permissions to Full and marking RW, but occasionally a drive will revert to RO.

    I can't find a Take Ownership option for drives, only folders. Am I looking in the wrong place?

    All folders are marked read only.

    I tried this step but it still would not change the folder situation. The Administrators was a Full Control

    open windows defender>virus and protection settings>scroll down to folder control access and turn OFF and leave OFF. it is useless and causes these types of issues.

    could not find virus and protection settings in Defender. Defender is running though. is there a way to turn off defender if so could that help

    All folders are marked read only.

    Ok open file explorer options and unhide the following 5 selections

    click on APPLY, APPLY to FOLDERS, OK

    So double click on C:\ (OPEN)

    select all >>to highlight all

    select properties >>for all

    now uncheck the box "Read Only" click on Apply and confirm OK to make changes to selected items, subfolders and files click on APPLY and OK

    restart PC

    Other than that, you must have the usual system corruption from a windows update. If this just started happening, then

    hold shift key down>start menu>power>restart PC

    start up options>troubleshoot>advanced>>system restore

    restore PC back to date before this started happening

    Yeah, this would involve read-only for write protection instead of permissions.

    attributes disk clear readonly

    I get DiskPart failed to clear disk attributes

    Having said that, it says it is Read-only: No anyway.

    I've now found the drive Owner setting (Properties | Security | Advanced | Owner is at the top of the window)
