Windows 10: DTS audio only shows as an option if I connect HDMI cable through my 5.1 AV receiver

DTS audio-only shows as an option if I connect HDMI cable through my 5.1 AV receiver HP G7 laptop connected to TCL 4k HDR10 tv, if I go straight to the tv via HDMI DTS audio does not show as installed in the AMD HDMI audio device list, If I run the HDMI cable through the 5.1 AV receiver DTS audio shows in the list.

I would like to help you:

I suggest you follow the steps below and check if it helps.

If you’re connecting an optical cable the settings would be changed so try the following steps

Two options:

1. Use the optical S/PDIF output of your motherboard.

2. Use the HDMI output of your GPU. (This is what I'd recommend if you're using an HDMI display).

I suggest you follow the steps below and check if it helps.

Go to the control panel.

Select sound.

Click on playback devices.

For option 1- connect the cable and set the 'Realtek digital output' as a default device.

Then right click on it.

Go to properties.

At the rightmost tab select DTS or Dolby Digital or 5.1.

For option 2-connect the HDMI cable through the receiver and set the 'Nvidia HDMI Output' as your default device. Then click 'Configure' and select 5.1 and check if it helps.

If the issue persist then, I suggest you to connect the speakers directly and check in the Msi gaming m5 z370 audio manager if he gets the 5.1 option or not using the SPDIF\output.

Optical does DD and DTS 5.1

HDMI will do DD, DTS, DD True HD and DTS Masters in 5.1 or 7.1

To answer your question, no you dont need HDMI, optical will work fine for regular DTS and DD. In UltraViolet's main menu look for audio settings. I down own a PS3 but I would guess their would be an setting for bitstream or optical/digital out somewhere too.

• Have you tried to update your audio and video drivers on the computer?
• Have you checked your TV settings if your HDMI settings are set up according to which port the HDMI cable is connected? For example: HDMI 1 or HDMI 2.
• Is the HDMI cable working if you use it on a different device?
