  1. Dual Boot 10 and 8.1 massacre

Alright i made it default boot. Which is what i did that last time with easybcd but something obviously went wrong and it named C, E or something.

It wouldn't let me make the timer 0. it said 3 was the lowest. So at the restart there was a 3 sec delay, but 10 was now on top which i assume means top priority. And it's still default in boot. So what do you think?

    Good help here, guys! *Smile

Just wondering; why not leave the W8 OS there?

edit boot timer as per @f14tomcat, then press and hold Shift while clicking Restart if you ever want to visit the 8.1 partition.

  5. Yes they saved me.

I was honestly just trying it out to see if it would work. Just like learning stuff. I'll probably replace it with Ubuntu or Mint. Just for a different perspective. My goal is to finish my own build, and then put either the 8.1 and update to 10. Or Linux if i can get all of the software i need (blu ray ripping/encoding, my library for PLEX) up and running.

As long as you are booting into Windows 10 now satisfactory, you can do what you want with the Windows 8 partition. Just make sure to not touch the first "System" partition on the disk!

You're the one who started it all by suggesting using your Windows 8 USB flash drive to install Windows 8 on the extra partition! I would suggest at a minimum you make a Windows 10 installation USB flash drive with the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. A DVD or USB flash drive of Kyhi's recovery disc is not a bad thing to have available either.

And i may have thought of the method, but i would've been lost after that... So thank you. I was honestly expecting the worst. It happened last night and i definitely lost some sleep. Ha..

Yes i want to do a complete backup of my PC. I had attempted it before messing with it, but it just stayed at the same progress for hours, so i gave up. Then i made the system image real quick. I'll do a Win 10 also if i need to. And i'll put that onto a DVD.

Remember that when you are here, on this screen, you are in a running WinPE system, so all you need to do is press Shift+F10 for a command prompt, and diskpart, taskmgr, notepad, bcdboot etc., are potentially available to you if you know how to use them. Taskmanager will allow you to browse through your disks to find and run other programs you may have installed to help you.

As an example, although Windows File Explorer is not available, if you have 7-Zip in Program Files you can run the 7-Zip file manager to navigate around your system, and execute files from there. Maybe other portable files on your system may be accessible to get you out of trouble.

  11. I've gotten use to the terminal in Linux, but haven't messed with that sort of thing in Windows. I'll definitely look into learning more about that and Run.
