Windows 10: Dual Boot with Optane

I have an approx. 2-3 year old Lenovo C940 that came with Windows 10 and Optane memory management system. Optane uses an Rapid Storage Technology driver RST which, according to my reading, is not compatible with Linux operating systems. While setting up the computer to dual boot Windows and a Linux distribution, I got a message that in order for it to work, I needed to disable Optane in the BIOS, which I did and it all seemed to work out ok; both systems boot and operate as they should. Yes, I know. It is common issue for recent oem machines.

Either:

Click load driver




Click Browse





Or by integrating into boot.wim image2. Dism++ is the simplest way.
You shouldnt need all those 152 drivers in boot.wim

 

Dual Booting with Windows 8.1


The procedure below will allow you to boot Windows separately or in dual boot configuration.
Here's what I recommend to do:

1. Disconnect the drive containing Windows 8.1
2. Install Windows 10 with one drive connected.
3. After step 2, reconnect the drive containing Windows 8.1
4. Boot up Windows 8.1. Open disk management and take a note of the drive letter of Windows 10 OS.
   NOTE: if you boot up Windows 10, then take a note of Windows 8.1 drive letter
5. Open Admin command prompt and type: bcdboot X:\windows where X: is the drive letter of Windows 10 (Windows 8.1 if you boot from Windows 10 in step 4)
6. Reboot the PC. You should have a dual boot screen.

NOTE: To break off the dual boot setting, Win+R->msconfig->boot and delete the none default entry on the list.

 

WIndows getting BSOD instantly after booting after dual booted with Ubuntu in a device with optane memory.

So I dual booted ubuntu 16.04 into my Windows 10 Asus x510 laptop with optane memory. To install Ubuntu, I had to change drivers from RST to AHCI and disable the optane in the process which I did following which the windows booted perfectly fine.

Now after 1 week, i am constantly having BSOD everytime I switch to windows while my Ubuntu works just fine. In fact the BSOD prevents me from doing anything as it comes just after bootup.

The exceptions I get are :

Kernel Security check failure

System thread exception

Please provide a relevant solution
