Windows 10: Dual Boot

I have Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 pro.
Windows 10 is on a M.2 and Windows 7 is on a Sata SSD.

What I want to do is, be able to choose which operating system to choose to boot from with out using 'F8'
I would like a screen that gives me that choice. Right now Windows 10 boots first, using a normal start.

I have read a lot of tutorial that show how to do this when installing Windows 10. I couldn't do that because I had all other drives disconnected when I installed Windows 10.

Always booting from the wrong drive

Drive K is not a boot drive.

If dual booting Windows located on the drive K: it will be changed to C:

You have to do the dual boot from the BIOS.

This was in fact a dual boot problem. All VM is dual boot.

 

Boot into Windows 10.

Open an admin command prompt

Type

bcdboot D:\windows

(subbing D with whatever drive letter Windows 7 OS is in as seen from Windows 10).

That's it.

 

Thank you that worked. I now get a choice.
What I have noticed is; when I'm in Windows 7 Disk Management I don't see the Windows 10 drive.
I also don't see it when I open My computer or Mini Tool.

When I'm in Windows 10 I see both drives using the same methods.

This is almost certainly a driver related issue. M.2 is a more recent development. No idea how to fix it though. Can you see drive in device management in Windows 7.

 

I think you hit the nail on the head.

Windows 7 doesn't have NVMe drivers. My 'M.2 is NVMe.
In Device Manager it shows 'PCI Device with no driver and I'm unable to update.

Thanks for the info. I will look into that at a later date.
I don't want to start to many things at the same time.
Tinkering with Windows 10 at the present time.

Who`s brand and model M.2 is it ?

I`m sure there are drivers for it *Smile

 

It's a Intel Pro 6000p M.2

Download NVMe* Drivers for Intel® SSDs

I`d install that Setup.NVME.exe

 

I went there and tried that driver.
Won't work. It's not for a 6000p.
