Dual Booting on ASUS with Optane SSD

I have just bought a new laptop - Asus with 1 TB Optane M.2 NVME SSD. I installed windows home from the oobe, and upgraded to PRO. I then partitioned hard drive into two partitions. I used dism to install W11 (created by uup) in a virtual hard drive and made a native boot entry. I rebooted and to my annoyance I did not get the graphical dual boot menu. I spent ages getting nowhere, and eventually I tried the old W7 style text boot menu (actually faster). Rather to my surprise this worked and I selected w11 and it crashed with a meaningless error stop code. I then spent nearly two days, turning of optane, secure boot, fast boot etc, and it just would not work. However Macrium Reflect happily dual booted. I had got a bios update immediately I installed windows via oobe first time (new bios was 1 day old!). So I was coming to conclusion the new bios updated was bugged and I was about to return laptop. On the web, I found several queries about this and the concensus was an issue with optane but in the end that turned out to be baloney. As a last test, I made a Reflect backup of laptop and decided to clean install windows 11 from scratch via usb drivd, but decided to try official W10 first. Then I was surprised, it got to the main screen where you select where to install it and no disk drive was listed, and stopped the installation. I then searched for the ssd disk drivers, and could not decide which were relevant so I exported all the drivers to root of installation usb (overkill but hey it wa easier). I then went to reinstall w10, and at installation location screen, I clicked on load driver option and I guessed which one was disk driver (IASTO.....), and to my surprise, the disk showed up and I was able to install it and it worked. So my problem was that the MS iso did not have suitable drivers. Funnily enough, if I had looked at the Reflect iso, I would have seen it had imported the driver to its additional driver directory!. I restored laptop back to its last working state, and then because I had no idea what other drivers might be missing, so I brute force injected all 152 drivers into boot.wim and install.wim of w11 iso using dism with recursive switch. I then reinstalled driver injected w11 iso using dism as a dual boot option (using a batch file I have for this purpose) and it worked! So the dual boot issue was a more generic issue i.e. lack of suitable drivers in MS iso! So I will have to create custom isos every time I want to clean install but I was doing that on old laptop for similar(ish) reasons. The only minor niggle is that the graphic boot menu seems to be rather flakey so I am sticking to old text base method.

    :)

  2. WIndows getting BSOD instantly after booting after dual booted with Ubuntu in a device with optane memory.

So I dual booted ubuntu 16.04 into my Windows 10 Asus x510 laptop with optane memory. To install Ubuntu, I had to change drivers from RST to AHCI and disable the optane in the process which I did following which the windows booted perfectly fine.

Now after 1 week, i am constantly having BSOD everytime I switch to windows while my Ubuntu works just fine. In fact the BSOD prevents me from doing anything as it comes just after bootup.

The exceptions I get are :

    Kernel Security check failure

    System thread exception

    Please provide a relevant solution

Dual Booting on ASUS with Optane SSD

Disabling Optane and Installing NMVe SSD

I've been trying to disable the IBM Optane RST in my system in preparation to installing a 1 TB NMVe SSD in the M.2 slot

With no success. I'm new to Windows 10 and all the fancy-schmancy gizmos like Optane RST memory and the like so....

My biggest hurdle seems to be disabling the Optane and switching the mechanical harddrive over to ACHI

Here are some screen pix of my system's bios.... showing specifically the SATA and Optane related parts. BIOS is latest & greatest
