Dual Windows 11 Pro Boot / Shared Drive

Hi everyone,I have a dual boot with 2 installs of Windows 11 Pro. One stable install A , and the other B where I install temporary apps for testing etc.I also have an internal data drive, where OneDrive puts all my files. This is also Bitlocker protected. So I've managed to unlock the Bitlocker drive in both systems A and B.However, now in Boot B, when I want to work with the files on the shared drive, I get warnings than I need to Provide Administrator Permission to copy / edit a file etc.I don't want to take ownership of the files unless Windows is happy to have 2 owners?.I can't explic

    Dual Booting with Windows 8.1

The procedure below will allow you to boot Windows separately or in dual boot configuration.
Here's what I recommend to do:
    1. Disconnect the drive containing Windows 8.1
    2. Install Windows 10 with one drive connected.
    3. After step 2, reconnect the drive containing Windows 8.1
    4. Boot up Windows 8.1. Open disk management and take a note of the drive letter of Windows 10 OS.
NOTE: if you boot up Windows 10, then take a note of Windows 8.1 drive letter
    5. Open Admin command prompt and type: bcdboot X:\windows where X: is the drive letter of Windows 10 (Windows 8.1 if you boot from Windows 10 in step 4)
    6. Reboot the PC. You should have a dual boot screen.

NOTE: To break off the dual boot setting, Win+R->msconfig->boot and delete the none default entry on the list.

  3. Dual Boot Windows 10 and 11 while sharing settings

Hello, I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

You can share files by linking the User folders in one install to the other one's User folders by this method:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-move-default...

I sync all my files to OneDrive so I just have OneDrive sync the User folders on each install to it's cloud to keep the files sync'd between the dual boot.

You cannot use the same apps which are installed to the specific OS, except Steam games which can run from their program folder via a shortcut to the game .exe. This may work on some Windows apps but it will not work on most.

Here is the best Dual Boot tutorial:

    https://nerdschalk.com/how-to-dual-boot-windows...

If you have separate hard drives then I'd install each while the other one is unplugged, then set preferred to boot first, boot the other one using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu interrupt key. This keeps them independently bootable. You can even add them to a Windows Dual Boot menu afterwards using EasyBCD and they'll still be indepdently bootable to come and go as you please.

WIth a regular Dual Boot the second installed OS uses the first one's boot files and becomes dependent upon it's EFI System partition to boot itself.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back, I will have other suggestions if necessary.
