Windows 10: Dualshock 4 Constantly Being Added as an Audio Device

I recently had to purchase a new Dualshock 4 since my old one was literally falling apart, and I've been running into something of an annoying issue. My old DS4, for whatever reason, only connected to my PC as a "wireless controller", it never came up as an audio device at all. However, this new one actually is being recognized as an audio device. Which is actually really cool! I have no issues with that. I know some users have mentioned that the control stops working/being recognized as a game control; mine does not have this problem.


What are problems, though, are that Windows always automatically switches to "Headset Earphone Wireless Controller", which is the Dualshock 4's audio jack. On top of this, disabling the device only works for the current session. Any time I disconnect and reconnect my DS4 which is quite often as I use both my Playstation 4 and PC for gaming daily, it adds it as a brand new controller and it is no longer disabled as an audio device.


To give an example, when I first connected the device to my PC, it automatically switched to it as my default audio device, which was listed as the aforementioned "Headset Earphone Wireless Controller". At the time, I wanted to keep using my standard High Definition Audio Device, so I set it as my default audio device, and disabled Headset Earphone Wireless Controller. After unplugging it to use it on my Playstation 4, and plugging it back in on my PC, I noticed that audio had disappeared, and checked my connected audio devices to see that the default audio device had changed to my DS4 again, only this time it was listed as, "Headset Earphone 2- Wireless Controller. Every time I disconnect and reconnect the control to my PC, it does this, increasing the number every time; I'm on Headset Earphone 8- Wireless Controller at this point. This occurs no matter what USB port I connect the control to.


How can I stop this increasing number and finally keep it disabled?

• Did you try connecting the same device on different computer?

Try troubleshooting without the emulator. Uninstall and restart PC first.
