Windows 10: Dualshock4 controller not working over Bluetooth without DS4Windows on Win10

Hey not sure if this is the right place to post this but, until recently I was using the Dualshock 4 controller on PC with the USB cable and it worked fine in games that natively supported it, while I was using it with DS4Windows for games that weren't.

Now I'm trying to use it via Bluetooth and while the controller connects normally, it doesn't register in games that support it unless I run it alongside DS4Windows program, and then it's seen like an Xbox controller and gets Xbox button prompts. So basically it doesn't work like a DS4 controller at all with Bluetooth.

Is it possible for Windows to see it normally like a Dualshock4 controller this way like it works over USB and give me DS4 button prompts in games that support them?

Yes. Use a program called DS4Windows. It emulates your DualShock4 as an X360 controller.
Can be used via bluetooth or cable.
I've been using it for a little over 2 years, never had any issues. Apart from the battery on the controller itself dying a bit, but that's not related.

Thank you! This definitely helped me. I had an issue where my DS4 controller wouldn't be detected by DS4Windows. It would partially show up in the 'controllers' tab but wouldn't show any details like battery level or ID. The problem was likely with me unpairing the controller in the Windows bluetooth settings when DS4Windows wasn't running. Or some variation of that.

I fixed the issue by re-pairing the PS4 controller in the Bluetooth settings while the DS4Windows program was open. I definitely learned my lesson--connecting 4 PS4 controllers to a PC is complicated, especially if you plan to swap controllers back and forth between PC and PS4 console.

So I had this same problem, but i solved it, so if anyone still cares about this, the way to fix it is to turn off DS4Windows, plug the controller in while ds4windows isnt running, then run ds4windows and let it show up as a controller there, and then go to bluetooth settings and unpair it while it is connected in ds4windows.

I hope this still interests and helps someone.
