Windows 10: Due to intel smart sound technology, the microphone stopped working

I install the drivers for sound, and along with the drivers, intel smart sound was downloaded, after which there was a hiss from my microphone, while the sound was

Many thanks for this. I have a Dell Inspiron 14 5490 laptop and the internal microphone stopped working recently.

I was on a support call with Dell for 45 minutes yesterday and they decided I needed to send the laptop back for a hardware replacement of the microphone! This fix has saved all the hassle of having to send it back for an unnecessary hardware repair.

Resolution

Open Device manager

In System devices > Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller

Right click and select Update driver

Select Browse my computer for driver software

Select let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer

Select High Definition Audio controller and install.
