Windows 10: Duplicate documents folder on hard drive to allow drag and dropping files

I used to be able to drag and drop files in the documents folder from File Explorer. In Office 365, my only documents folder is pinned to the task bar and I can't drag and drop from there. How do I duplicate the documents folder on the hard drive so I can access files through file explorer?

Hi Charles,

the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.

Dragging documents to folders using win 10

Ok

1 I click on the yellow folder on desktop bottom line (name not known)

2 there appears

• a pictorial top row of folders eg pictures, documents
• under this is title - a list of Recent files
• to the left is 1 quick access , 2 one drive and 3this PC . 2 of these seem to duplicate files and folders (these are unnecessary for home user)

3 Click on Documents in one of the lists . A list of folders and files appears. I want to merge 2 folders by drag and drop.

4 I click on one folder which is to be merged and a tick appears and title is highlighted but I cannot move the folder by drag and drop or other method

I never wanted to move to win 10. Now I am there I can see it is a system for business people and not for home users. Far too complex . It has made what used to be simple and fun impossible. Irelise this is not your fault but I wish I'd never changed from
8.1. However my laptop would not update without including win 10 so in the end I was obliged to do this.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

• Plug USB hard drive into old computer.
• Open File Explorer (Win+E) and open the USB drive.
• Open another File Explorer window and open your documents folder.
• Drag files to the USB drive.
• Move drive to new computer.
• Drag files to their new homes in the matching documents/pictures/videos/whatever folders you use to organize.
