Windows 10: Duplicate files appeared on my PC !

Hi,

I have a 2010 Dell-PC with a 3 TB hard drive C:\ drive. I can only use 2 TB of this due to hardware/BIOS issues.


Previously I had 1.1 TB free.

Then recently, I noted I only had 297 GB free. I had not done that much work which would result in such heavy use.

I think I had to correct some errors in Microsoft account details and had to login to OneDrive, but did not know how this impacted on my hard drive usage.


I used WinDirStat to analyse where all the hard drive usage is, and found:


C: = 1.7 TB


C:\users\Kwong3\PIctures= 889.3 GB


C:\users\Kwong3\Kwong3\Kwong3-PC\Data\C\users\Kwong3\Pictures=889.3 GB


I think these 2 directories are different physically.


Why did this happen ?


Which one can I remove or backup ? Again taking up precious external hard drive resources ?

Do you recommend a useful backup facility so I don't have 4 or 5 duplicates of the same file this may be harder as some Canon RAW files may have the same name despite being different images from different cameras or time, date.

Finding duplicate files

Hey hey,

During the years the backups have just accumulated in random places, essentially, and I would like to clean up. Is there a program that can search for duplicate files? And by that I mean identical files. I tried dupeGuru, but that somehow found ... all files to be identical I guess? Like how a bunch of jpg's with different names, sizes and locations being marked 100% identical, or how a bunch of xls-files with completely different everything also were 100% matches with each other. I don't need any fancy functions, just a list of the files that share the name and filesize and created/last write dates.

Thank you for the suggestion. I need to see a list of duplicate files and select those I want to eliminate. Do either of the programs you suggested compare file content or do they simply point out duplicate
