Windows 10: Duplicate files/folders

I am after some software that will help me remove duplicate files.

In this case, some program seems to have recreated duplicate folders with just a file called "desktop.ini" in it. I would like to be able to search for that and remove all the corresponding duplicate folders that contain just that filename.

Windows 10: When I save a .pdf statement to a specific folder, a duplicate in saved in Documents folder. Why?

Is there some way to prevent a duplicate of a .pdf file save to a specific folder from being saved in the Documents folder?

This seems to always happen when I save a Bank Account statement in a specific folder. This requires the extra work of

deleting the duplicate file.

Original title: Duplicate files

I had a hard drive failure requiring its replacement. The people who installed the new drive were able to transfer files from the old to the new drive. However, somehow I seem to have many files duplicated, including hundreds of saved pictures. I am reluctant
to delete any folder containing these files without verifying the folders/files are truly identical. Is there a way to compare the files/folders that appear to be duplicated?

File Explorer Options > View >
under Hidden files and fodders, dot the "Don't show........">
check the box "Hide protective operating system files >
OK when done.

 

Thanks for the reply. Mines already set to those settings. I think it was some program that created them for some reason. Only some have the ini file while others have other bonafide files in them.
