    Duplicate subfolders in User folder

    Gallicbear,

You might create a new account to use instead.

  2. I did. It wasn't too hard or time-consuming. I could copy files between the two users. And I got rid of the useless 'default' user, which didn't even have its own user folders.
    Thanks, Shawn.

Don't know but I updated to Build 10122 and they are not double anymore.

    Aha ...

You see, you left off that little tidbit ... about 10122.

Yeah, my 'duplicates' are gone too in 10122

But then there are a myriad of other issues on this machine 10.0.122
I'm only going to play with this one for a day or two.. Too many show stoppers for me.
I do like the fact hat you can hide the all Apps list by clicking the hamburger menu (now there's an issue I've reported ... what icon is the settings menu? the hamburger, the gear, or some other carry over from the past. Sometimes, there's a gear in the hamburger) *Wink

Sstill wish MS would offer a full All apps screen ala Win8.1- but I'm fairly certain that's a dead horse. Maybe after they get beat up in the real world. Who knows

    Thanks Edwin.

I'm running Windows 10.0.10240 (GR) and the multiple Documents folder issue is appearing here.

If I close the Explorer window and re-open it, they are gone. Haven't yet figured out the pattern that causes them to appear but it definitely is related to saving items into the Documents folder.

  10. Some software, like MS Office, automatically create backups and such in the Documents folder. For example, I just allowed my Outlook to archive some of my Outlook data. The default location to store those archives was in my Documents/Outlook files. However, I have my Documents folder being sync'd to OneDrive. The path to the OneDrive "Documents" folder is different than the path to the User "Documents folder. So Outlook, being unable to find the folder it normally stores its archives to, creates a "User/Documents/Outlook files" folder, then places the archive in it.

The solution, then, was to go into my Office options and change the default destination folders to the OneDrive path. Now the second Documents folder no longer is being created.

    Hope this helps.

Hi All, I'm new to this forum but have been experiencing the same issues on Windows 10. Following IronRod's comment about it to do with saving items in the Documents folder I thought I would explore a little more. I also find closing down explorer and reopening will result in any duplicates disappearing - so I can confirm it is just a rendering thing and not a file system issue.

I have observed when I am running Google Drive in the background on Win 10, and I create/edit/delete a file in the Documents folder, I get two duplicates created (of the Documents folder) for each of those interactions! If I close down the Google Drive service running in the background, then none of the above happens - behaves as expected (no duplicates). Note, I have all my personal docs (Documents folder) synced to Google Drive, but I have no other folders synced. The duplicates issue only occurs on my Documents folder and no other folders so far.

I would be keen to know if others in this thread also run Google Drive and if you shut it down, does it stop the problem from happening? This will help confirm if it is indeed a Google Drive issue on Win 10 - I used to run Google Drive on Win 7 without this issue from memory.

Assuming Google Drive is the issue, does anyone have any suggestions, other than not using Google Drive? It would be great to finall put this issue to bed with a solution.

I've been able to duplicate this in multiple ways. It always is related to saving a file in the Documents folder. For example, this evening, simply exporting some keys from RegEdit to the Documents folder produced a new Documents icon in the list displayed under "This PC", a new entry for every file that was saved. And I confirm AJJ's point that this is related to rendering -- usually, just pressing F5 clears the duplicates thought, a couple times, I had to close and re-open the "This PC" to get it to refresh.

Still annoying. I mean, Windows 10 is supposed to be better and this is a pretty obvious thing easily duplicated. 'Course, not sure how many other people are experiencing this though, clearly, I'm not the only one.

IronRod, Can you please confirm if you run Google Drive? Thanks

I can confirm the multiple documents folder links issue. It seems to have stopped however for me, for now. It seems that whenever OneDrive is syncing, then about once every second or so a new Documents folder link is created in the navigation pane, but when the window is closed, something resets and there's only one--until OneDrive syncs again. After having waited a period of maybe half an hour, OneDrive seems to have calmed down and there is no funny business going on now. This is Windows 10 Home x64 v. 1511, just formatted, just installed all my programs. There is no other file syncing or backup or sharing or w/e software on the computer, just OneDrive (and MS Office, if that matters).

Edit: Oh hey I created a New Folder in the OneDrive folder and it spawned the sync issue. (this after a restart). At least I know this is recreatable. Have a screenshot:

Yes, Google Drive, OneDrive, and Box are all running sync.

However, I only installed Google Drive last night and it was happening before that. Of course, could have been one of the other two. I can investigate that but I also know that the files I was saving were not any that were being synced by either of these services. They were being saved to my Documents folder and that is not synced.
