Windows 10: Duplicate users at login, no way to get in, image restore was required

The other day I was facing problems to login. First: UserID and password were disabled (netplwiz).For one reason or the other, I really don't know anymore, at boot, I got this screen with two users. I am aware of it: it sounds quite familiar to many of us. I could not get in. I used by Outlook account and password, my userID (the 5 character one) and Outlook password on both. No way. No alternative but to restore a Windows image. Problem solved. This time I was lucky by having created a fairly recent image. Also all documents are stored elsewhere and all documents are stored elsewhere. Image they were stored on C: . . . I am left with the question how to solve this in future? Is there some trick to bypass this? Thanks.

Ways to bypass the login theme and signin do not work

Tried setting netplwiz in option 1 step 4 which shows no check in users must enter ..... no bypass of login

Tried step 4 in option 5 below to disable require sign-on on wakeup via policy via registry but still no change on wakeup still getting the screen picture that requires hitting Esc to move to the sign in window which shows a silhouette image, my user name and a sign in button in order to access my desktop screen. Guess I will have to live with the extra steps.

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect


In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.

1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination
   
   
   
4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
5. Boot up with your new HD.

 

Duplicate user name at login

Hello,

I've repeated those steps with the same results. It tries to auto login with a duplicate account first but fails with an incorrect password. When I try the first account and enter the same password I set I log in with no problem. The duplicate account disappears when I disable auto log in. The problem seems to be this second account even when I enter my user name and password it's incorrect? How could that be? It's the same name as the first one it's very confusing.
