Windows 10: Duplicate works correctly on both screens, but second screen only displays nothing

I have a laptop connected via HDMI to my AV receiver and then TV. Yesterday after an firmware update my laptop did not start up anymore. The build-in diagnosis solved that problem and I can use my laptop as before, except that I cannot use its project function "second screen only" anymore. Very strange because when I use duplicate then video and sound are correctly send to my AV receiver while the laptop screens also shows the same content. But the moment I choose "second screen only" both screens go black and no sound is heard anymore.Any ideas?

1) Are you connecting the second monitor through the VGA or the HDMI port?

2) What is the make and model of the second monitor?



This issue could be caused due to some incorrect settings or due to an incompatible driver. I would suggest you to try these steps and check:



First, I would suggest you to check if you have configured the second screen correctly. It depends on which settings you have selected for the second monitor. You can extend, duplicate or choose only the second screen to be ON. If you have selected only the
second screen to be ON and if the second screen is not compatible, then both the screen might appear black. Refer to this article to check if you have configured the second screen correctly:

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the graphic card driver from the manufacturer website and check, if it works. Refer to the following steps to uninstall the graphic card driver from the Device Manager.

a. Click on Windows key + X and then, select Device Manager.

b. Locate and expand “Display Adaptor” in the Device Manager Window.

c. Right-click on the “Display Adaptor” and click on “uninstall" the graphic card driver.

d. Restart the computer and check, if it works.

my second screen is no longer recognised/working.

You may have to re-specify the display style on your laptop. There's a possibility that your laptop is currently set to only display the PC screen. Let's change the display style to
Extend or Duplicate and see if your laptop will recognize your TV as the second monitor/screen.

By the way, please ensure that your TV is properly connected to your laptop using a VGA, DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort cable, then follow the steps below to change the display style:

• Press the Windows key + P.
• In the right pane of your screen, the following display styles will appear:
  
  PC Screen Only
  
  Duplicate
  
  Extend
  
  Second Screen Only

3. Select either Duplicate or Extend.

Cannot Duplicate Display / Screen

I am a Surgeon. During years I have been using 2 displays duplicating the screens to show details of the operations to my patients. Recently, after a Windows 10 update I cannot any longer duplicate the Displays / Screens.

I have searched online for the solutions and everywhere it says about drivers. I have update all drivers, I have used the intel updating driver tool, I have followed all the steps suggested by Microsoft, and I cannot duplicate the displays / screens yet.

I will appreciate a Step by Step guided solution. 2 displays / screens are essential for my job as a Surgeon.
