Windows 10: Duplicated Package Cache folders and files in Windows 11

I'm running Windows 11 Pro, and getting warnings that my C: drive is full. I've been working through removing spurious files, but I have also run a scan using a package called SequoiaView. This shows me all the files on the drive, their relative sizes and the folders and directories they live in.Going through, I spotted some duplicated files - in C:\programdata\package cache and C:\users\all users\package cache. There are 48 identical folders with a total size of over 1.3Gb. I've looked on this forum, and seen a post from a couple of years back that suggests that one of these sets of folde

Hi רן, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

The folder C:\Users\All Users\Package Cache is only a junction or a link to C:\ProgramData\Package Cache. Basically, they're just two names for the same folder but only the C:\ProgramData\Package Cache exists as the real folder. The C:\Users\All Users is there to provide backward compatibility to older programs. I would say just leave them and don't delete either since C:\ProgramData\Package Cache is required for Windows to function properly.

Even though they take space, I understood I shouldn't delete this folder.

However, I have to folders with the same name and size:
c:\Users\All Users\Package Cache

C:\ProgramData\Package Cache

Why do I have two? Can I delete one of them (is one of them unnecessary)?

We appreciate your response Jay. We suggest that you try resetting the cache folder in App Directory. You may follow the steps below:

• Open File Explorer; then, copy-paste the following path in the explorer address bar and hit
  Enter:
  
  C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
  
  
  
  Note: In case your Windows is installed on some other drive, replace
  C above with the system root drive, followed by the name of your own user account. Also, replace the text <username> with the username associated with your account.
  
• In the LocalState folder, check whether the cache folder is present or not. If it is there, rename it
  cache.old.
• Next, create a new folder and name it cache. In case the cache folder is not there by default, just create an empty new folder and name it
  cache.
