  1. Dust Filter alert

I have an issue with my dell optiplex 5050 pc running windows 10. Currently it is giving me an error on startup that states " alert! dust filter is due to be replaced or cleaned. My PC doesn't come with a dust filter so I am not sure why it is alerting me. For some reason it will not let me boot into the BIOS settings to disable the error, I have tried pressing f2 upon startup but it goes straight to the message before disappearing after ten seconds and booting to the login screen. I have tried accessing the bios on the recovery settings but do not have the option to enter the BIOS settings in

    Incredibly cheap dust filters!

I've seen a number of threads/posts on this forum (and many others) looking for a cheap and easy way to make dust filters for PC intake fans.

Some suggest buying specific products designed for PC fans (£2-£5 for a 120mm x 120mm filter)
Some suggest redneck alternatives such as tights/tumble dryer sheets etc. (all great solutions)

However, I've found the perfect solution.

I've just purchased two sheets of the real foam (as supplied with many higher end cases such as Lian Li etc)

Each sheet is 2m x 1.5m, comes in a few colours and a range of densities and is cut to any thickness you want!!

The best part..............each sheet is less than £15.

That's £15 to buy enough dust filters to protect over 100 fans!

Here is the company - Filters

Scroll down the page until you get to Reticulated Foams (open cell foams graded in ppi, Pores per Inch)

The standard PPI (pores per inch) supplied for PC dust filters is around 60.

I've ordered one sheet of 20ppi (for high air flow) and one sheet of 60ppi for extra protection.

Just call them up, ask for a quote, they will send you a pro forma invoice, then you pay with cheque or bank transfer - they then ship (cost around £9 for 2 sheets).

I hope this info is useful for some of you avid system builders/modders.

Cases with removable dust filters on all intakes?

I'm looking for a good case with removable (cleanable) dust filters on all air intakes. I prefer not to have a case with open grills unless they all have dust filters on them. Mid tower or larger, and $200 or less.

I live in a very dusty home with cats that shed and kick up even more dust. My computer is also on the floor, so it just seems like every week I have to clean dust out of my system since it's an older case with open front grills (that just get clogged with dust). I've also had parts burn out from their heat sinks being clogged from dust in years past.

I've done searches online, but a lot of reviews and tech specs don't list dust filters, even if some cases have them. So it's been tricky finding one.
