Windows 10: DVD/CD Does Not Work

I installed a new 500Gb SSD on my computer. Everything worked out fine except I can't get my DVD/CD Rom to work. It does show up on the desktop, but when I insert a program disk it does NOT respond. Any suggestions?

Windows 10 Pro, 8Gb of RAM, Dell I5 computer which originally had Windows 7. Have 3 External 1Gb Drives attached via USB & 1-2Gb internal drive in addition to the 500Gb SSD.

DVD/CD Player not working


Do you have a bootable DVD or CD?

If so, I suggest using it to test the hardware. If you can boot from a DVD, then the problem must be within Windows.

 

CD/DVD drive is not correctly displayed

All the resolutions listed under Method 1 apply to the cases when CD/DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs. Fortunately, my drive is recognized by Windows and other programs. I tried all the step-by-step resolutions listed, but did not
work. For some reason, my CD/DVD drive icon is not the right icon for the drive, and is for compact flash. Any idea?

I also reset my BIOS settings back to factory reset, but it did not help.

I would suggest you to install the latest drivers for CD/DVD drive from the manufacturer’s website or can update the drivers by following the steps provided below:

• Press “Windows key + R” and type “devmgmt.msc”.
• Right click on DVD/CD Roms from the list and select
  properties.
• Under Driver tab click on Update button and follow the prompts to update the driver.
