  1. DVD drive missing

Had NUMEROUS problems with Windows 10 and ran the reset program to reinstall Windows 10. Now, my DVD drive is shown in device manager but not in file manager so I cannot load all my software from disk. How do I get the DVD drive back so I can reloading TurboTax and other software apps?

    :)

Try updating your DVD driver again......or look for new update .....from Dell.

  5. Have you tried putting a disc in the drive? I believe a default setting in File Explorer is to hide empty drives. If it is showing in Device Manager, then it is being detected.

If that fails, check in Disc Management to make sure it has a drive letter assigned.

I take your point and stand corrected.

I was looking at the drives listed in the expanded "This PC" column in the left pane. I failed to pay attention to what was on the right.

Mia Culpa, thanks for pointing that out.

  11. I can't put anything in the drive. You can't open it externally (manually). If it was showing up in File Explorer, I could simply select "Eject" and it would open. It a 4 mo old Dell XPS 8900.

The DVD/CD drive shows up in Device Manager but not in File Explorer. Not in Quick Access or This PC. Unfortunately, you can't "launch" it from Device Mgr. Can't load any software from CD until I get this $#@$%# fixed. NOTHING I've found by googling this problem has worked so far.

  12. Since after Reset all drivers are gone, try to update them, mainly those: Product Support | Dell US

Chipset: Intel(R) Management Engine Interface Driver
Chipset: Intel 100 Series Chipset Driver
Serial ATA: Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver and Management Console

@Mike: True - but in the screenshot he posted, the 'This PC' directory on lower left is expanded and shows there is no listed D or F drive. Wouldn't that give the same indication you're asking him for, just from a different layout than your example? I see a Toshiba5 showing as drive (L*Smile , and a Samsung device showing as (K*Smile. @Datapod: Assuming you have a disc in either of the drives, as Deacon said, it should show up in that section. If it doesn't, I would uninstall the drive in question from device manager and reboot - then as Mike said, check for a driver update from Dell.

  14. Ran all 3 updates from the Dell web site with no improvement. File Explorer still not recognizing the DVD/CD. It was there for a short time after I did the reset because I loaded MS Office and Outlook from their CDs. Then it just disappeared. There has got to be a solution for this or else I'll have to do another Reset. Maybe this time I'll have to wipe it entirely clean.
