Windows 10: DVD drive reads the disc. After opening and closing the drive, the drive turns off and...

Had to write a long subject as this is not the regular make sure the drive is clean and reinstall the drivers. If I boot the pc with a dvd in the drive, you will see the dvd drive and the title of the dvd in windows explorer. If I click on the drive, the directory opens and I see the audio and video folders of the dvd. If I open the drive and close it, I can not open the drive again, the lights don’t go on as they do when you insert a dvd, and when I click on the drive in explorer, explorer whites out and displays not responding.


I deleted the drive in device manager and it was put back in. The drivers say they are updated.


Originally, I had thought there was no DVD noted in device manager not sure but multi-media controller had an exclamation mark, so I deleted it thinking it would reinstall but it did not. Then I noticed the dvd drive was listed.


I actually ripped an entire dvd and after inserting the blank media and coming back expecting to find the burn complete, I found the system had stalled and discovered the problem. As I mentioned, initially the DVD works, thus the ripping was ok but after I opened to insert the blank media, the drive fails. Usually after I open the drive and close it, it will not open again.


Scannow in dos and found corrupted files. The second scan found nothing. The problem persists.


Completely at a loss.

DVD Drive Unable to Read Discs

My DVD drive can't read any discs at all.

Whenever I try to open the disc, it returns this error:





I've tried Methods 3 and 6 listed here (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...s-not-recognized-by-windows-or-other-programs),
but it doesn't resolve the problem at all. Method 5 is not applicable because there's no UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the right pane.

I've tried troubleshooting (Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot), but DVD drives is not in the list of troubleshooting options.

Other steps took:

• Tested the discs on a DVD player connected to the TV via AV cables - the DVD player is able to play the discs without any issues
• Bought an external DVD reader and connect it to the computer - same error
• Connected the newly bought external DVD reader to a laptop also running Windows 10 - same error
• Tried the solutions on this thread (CD/DVD drive says Please insert a disk. (Windows 10)),
  but as some of the posters mention, nothing works.
