Windows 10: DVD Drives Quit

Both DVD drive quit working,is there a easy fix for this?

Burn Disc does not work in Windows 10 File Explorer.

I have to try many DVD-RW before one will work using the copy to the DVD drive when I copy my pictures to a DVD. CD's have quit working entirely.

 

Just cannot upgrade to Windows 10 - No ideas left :-(

I would redownload the ISO and only use it if the download finishes and the file is verified. Then burn the DVD and verify the burn worked correctly. Then copy the contents of the DVD to a directory on the hard drive and try and install that way from the
hard drive. I had a failure (stupid "Something happened" message) and by copying the DVD to the C drive, I succeeded in updating.

But success seems to vary quite a bit.

Thanks jds63, it fixed my problem. Dvd drives are up and running.

Might be what you are talking about with the registry fix, seen it used in the past for similar issues not reading discs.

Similar way to, but also reinstalling the disc drive in device manager to

1) click the start menu
2) click on "run"
3) type "regedit" and click ok
4) go to string key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5) delete "upper filters" and "lower filters in the right side window.
6) right click my computer in the start menu.
7) click properties
8) go to the hardware tab
9) click device manager
10) expand the dvd/cdrom drives
11) right click the dvd rom and click uninstall
12) restart computer

Other cause can only be DVD drive has a CD laser diode and a DVD laser diode one could be bad. Be if only DVD do not read.
