Windows 10: DVD-ROM not working on win10

Hello,


I upgraded for free from Win7 to Win10 when it was offered (was it in 2015 ? I forgot).

Since then I have a problem with my DVD-ROM player. The issue wasn't really important before now as I rarely needed to use the player, and I had another (and very inconvenient) solution if needed. But from now on I would need a more permanent solution.

So here is the problem :

- If I insert a blank disc to try to burn it with a software, windows will start "searching" and doesn't stop until it froze completely (not BSoD, just frozen display)

I thought the problem was related to the software I used, so I changed for another software, and another again, with no better luck

- Then I tried inserting a common music CD in the player, and a software CD-Rom... with the same issue : searching, searching, searching, and then display frozen.

This issue is not related to the use of a particular software, neither to a particular disc kind (CD / DVD / -R / -RW) nor brand


I tried a clean reinstall of Win10... still no luck.


The player was working perfectly fine on Win7 by the way.


How can I fix it ?

my dvd rom doesn't work properly in win10

I upgraded my win7 to win10 and after that my dvd-rom doesn't work properly.it runs CDs but write and DVD is not work.

windows detect the drive without any problem in device manager & troubleshoot and it says that the best driver is installed successfully.

my dvd-rom is Toshiba matshita uj8a0as

and

my device is asus Nseries.

anyone had this problem before or somebody can help me?

 

DVD Rom is not detected under Windows 10

I know this issue is reported several times on this forum and over the internet but all those posts mark an answers which is not suitable for my case:

The issue:

DVD ROM Is visible in BIOS
In is not visible in Device Manager
It is not shown in "This Computer" listing all available drives
It is not show in Disk management
DVD is visible in Intel Rapid enterprise manger as ATAPI device

What I have tries so far:

1. Check UpperFilter, LowerFilter, UpperFilter.bak and LowerFilter.bak in the Windows Registry in the following location:
   
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
   

They are not present there so the solution that is based on deleting these values does not work in my case

1. Created HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0 key and EnumDevice1 with DWORD value = 1 and reboot. Continue with this procedure upto EnumDevice5 = 5
   
2. Checked if a DVD ROM was visible in hidden devices in Device Manager.
   It was! Then I applied the solution I found in one of the forums, which suggested to uninstall hidden devices (my DVD) then uninstall SATA AHCI standard controller and reboot.
   

I did it and then after reboot the Standard controller is back again but no more hidden DVD ROM .

1. Next suggestion I found was to modify the CSConfigFlag under HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\SCSI registry key to value 1 and then 2, each time rebooting, but in my case I do not have such key.
   

The only HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum key that is under the ENum is PCI and no SCSI

1. I tried to use the DVD Repair Tool version 0.4.3.430 by Rizonesoft as many people reported in helped them, in my case it does nothing.
   
2. Scan whole computer with paid antivirus software - nothing found
   
3. Used sfc /scannnow - to check windows installation - no major issues were found
   
4. Run troubleshooting from control panel and went through Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.
   

My configuration is as follows:

The problem started after CPU Upgrade from Intel i7 3820.
Before DVD ROM was working, with exactly the same BIOS configuration (including RAID setting)

I can boot from the DVD, I can boot from USD and access the DVD so It seems the hardware is working OK. I think it is Windows issue.

Do you have any suggestions what could I try else to fix my DVD under Windows (except windows reinstall I hope)?

 

missing dvd rom?

i have just upgraded my mobo to a Abit p35 pro and when i start up the post screen shows (in green writing) both my IDE Plextor-800a DVD/RW + Plextor-116a DVD/ROM but when i open XP the only one that is detected is my RW drive? I have had a look in disk manager and changed the cable but nothing. The drives are set as DVD/RW-Master, DVD/Rom-Slave. Both drives were working perfectly well and i can open and close the Rom drive while in windows.

The only thing i can think of is a BIOS setting but not being that familiar with them i don't know where to find any of the options.

Any ideas or suggestions?
