Windows 10: DVD RW Drive won't read/write blank DVD or CDs but will read already written DVDs/CDs.

My new machine running Windows 10 won't read/write blank DVDs or CDs. I've tried several removable burners and they all produce the same error which states "Windows can't read the disc in drive F:\. Make sure that the disc uses a format that Windows recognizes. If the disc is unformatted, you need to format it before using it."The drive tools menu has everything greyed out except optimize and eject. Optimize only lists the C: drive when launched. This occurs no matter what blank disc is put in and no matter what drive is used. We have about a dozen USB connectable DVD/CD burners in the office

CD/DVD drive not reading DVDs

My CD/DVD drive cannot read/write to DVD, yet it reads and writes to CDs! The Device Manages shows that the drive is working normally, yet when I insert a DVD, I get the error message "no media"! I have tried uninstalling the drive and re-installing it,
but the fault persists. I am also running Linux O/S in the same PC, but on a separate hard drive and Linux cannot rear/write DVDs either, which suggests that the fault is either in the drive itself or in BIOS, perhaps. By the way, I rarely use the CD/DVD
drive. Only to install software and that is no more than a few times a year, so I doubt that the drive is worn.

Finally, I also have an old IDE CD/DVD drive and when I connected it it could not read/write to DVDs, but worked with CDs.

I am running Windows 10 Home V. 1809 O/S build 17763.475

AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4000

CD/DVD will not burn cd's

CD/DVD drive not reading DVDs

DVD's have a much finer track than a CD and that is harder for a laser to read . . .

Since the drive can read/write CD's bu not DVD's, and that it also does not work on Linux means that either your optical drive is old and beginning to fail or the laser needs to be cleaned.
