Windows 10: DVD unit is only formatting 2.6 instead that 4.7 gigas

Have RW DVD try to format it to erase what already had (did not erase all when try erase) BUT my unit is only formatting 2.7 gigas and does not give me option for 4.7

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

no need for all that diagnostic stuff - simply just format

For HDD's > around 2TB you have to make them GPT. Follow commands

Get into command mode (admin) then do the following commands

1) Diskpart
2) List Disk
3) Select Disk xx (xx will be the number of the 4TB disk)
4)Clean
5)Convert GPT
6)Create partition Primary
7)exit

Now Windows can format the HDD in the normal way -- you can do it after step 6) but for people not familiar with the CLI it's probably easier to exit back to windows and format in windows

however if you want to use cli -- then instead of 7) exit continue :

7) list partition
8) select partition xx -- you need the big one not the small efi one created when the convert GPT command issued
9)format quick fs=ntfs
10)assign
11)exit

windows will not format my dvd-rw's

In windows 10? But went to Device Manager Steps 2 and 3. Right Click, no windows update shows up. Any freeware you suggest?
