Windows 10: DVDRAM question...

My system has an LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50 DVD drive, that stopped working. I have not been using it for a good while and not certain just when it stopped working?

Inserting a video, music, or data CD/DVD shows on the device, that it is reading and/or trying to read the disk. Windows Explorer pretty much locks up trying to read the disk, until the system ejects the CD/DVD with no errors, either in the event viewer and/or by Windows Explorer.

The drive in itself has the latest firmware, from 2012, and LG states that the drive is "P-n-P" in Windows 10. The Windows driver (cdrom.sys) is from 2006:





Is this a broken drive, or just need a driver from later date? If the latter one, where can I find it? LG does not have drivers for Windows 10...

Just looked on my laptop (IBM T61p) - the dvd drive is listed as HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U10N...

HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT70N dvd player with Windows 10

I have the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT70N dvd player in my Asus X55U laptop. It was fine until I upgraded to Windows 10, but now the player is not visible anywhere - no autoplay, nothing - not visible among the drives etc.

In the device manager it is listed as 'other devices -HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT70N - with a question mark.

I can insert a dvd and I can hear that the player physically starts to rotate briefly, but then it stops again and nothing happens.

I have tried to find and update a driver, but Windows says no driver is available.

I am not even sure it is a driver problem.

Please help

 

Local account installation question

I'm fairly certain that Skip this step was available in 10.0.130 - the workaround in Step 20 (back button) is no longer required.

The currently known, as of 10.0.130, ways to create a Local account sign-in are

• Skip this step at the MS account creation phase
• No Internet connection during the install
• static IP (post# 2 by Fragment) - New (to me anyway)
