Windows 10: Dvd's not playing after windows 10 October 2020 update

Hello. I've read a number of previous posts on this subject, but the issue remains unresolved. After the windows 10 update I am no longer able to play DVD's in my disc drive that played just fine prior to the update - CD's play just fine. I've performed every "fix" listed in these forums to no avail. I've even swapped the optical drive between working pc's. The DVD's play fine in a stand-alone DVD player. There is clearly some issue in the latest windows 10 update that is disabling DVD playback. I've been using VLC media player without issue for several years until after the latest windows update, as well as windows media player - now neither will play any DVD's at all. Is there any new information or an actual fix as of this date? Thanks for any feedback that acknowledges this issue in all its details.

Current status as of October 20, 2020
Windows 10, version 20H2 is available for users with devices running Windows 10, versions 1903 and higher who manually seek to “Check for updates” via Windows Update. The recommended servicing status is Semi-Annual Channel.

October 2020 update is in the last phase of testing as it was released last month to the Release preview channel. As far as the name goes, it should release this month.

• Is the issue specific to school dvd's?
• What happens when you try to play the disc? Is there any error message?
