  1. DVI monitors not recognised after recent Windows updates

The issue is that a laptop with an HDMI port fails to recognise a Dell monitor connected via either an HDMI/DVI cable or an HDMI/HDMI cable plus HDMI/DVI adapter. This has worked for over a year but recent Windows updates seem to have broken this and now only monitors directly corrected via an HDMI port are recognised.

Can Microsoft please explain how to workaround this and when a fix will be available?

I have tried to debug this as far as I can and can provide this information:

    • For over a year, external DVI monitors connected to my laptop worked fine
    • I haven't used an external monitor for about a month, during which there were Windows changes updated; now when I plug in the same monitors, they are not recognised by Windows.
      • Windows does not "ping" for new hardware found
      • The "Display settings" "Detect" claims there is no external monitor despite the monitor noticing that it is plugged into something
    • I originally suspected a graphics driver issue this is an Intel 920 UHD driver or a laptop manufacturer driver issue but...
      • I have tried various Intel driver releases, including old ones, and the DVI monitors are recognised
      • I have tried the manufacturer's own display drivers it's a Lenovo, including old releases, but the DVI monitors are not recognised
      • I have borrowed a recent HP laptop that also uses Intel 920 UHD hardware and this laptop also cannot see the DVI monitors
    • Both my TV and a more recent Dell HDMI monitor are immediately recognised and work without any issues.

For your info, these are the monitors and TV involved; all worked fine with the laptop until recently:

    • Dell monitor #1, E22WFPc, DVI
    • Dell monitor #2, P2317H, HDMI
    • Dell monitor #3, P2314H, DVI
    • Dell monitor #4, 1704FTPs, DVI
    • Panasonic TV, TX-L32E6B, HDMI

I'm happy to help with diagnosing this as far as possible I write software for a living but I cannot do stuff like reinstalling this laptop as it is being used by my daughter who is doing "university from home" because of Covid.

    :)

    DVI Ports not Recognised

I have 2 computers linked by a Belkin KVM. Everything was working fine until yesterday. I booted up PC 2 and the POST screen came up but just when it was about to show the Windows log in screen, the monitor displayed no signal. The graphics card has a HDMI cable connected to my TV and that is working, just none of the 2 DVI ports.

This happened a while ago and I ended up reinstalling Windows which solved the problem but I'm hoping to avoid doing that this time and actually fixing the problem.

The monitor is definitely working as I'm typing this using PC 1.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics card. Driver is up to date so I'm out of ideas. It's strange the HDMI port works but neither DVI port is detected

    Any suggestions?

UPDATE: I ran the AMD cleanup utility to totally remove all the software. When the PC rebooted, the monitor was working, just low res.

I installed the Radeon software again, the screen went blank and made the noise like it found new hardware. The TV came back on but the monitor showed no signal again.

So the problem is with the Radeon software

UPDATE 2: I ran the AMD clean up utility again but this time I let Windows update install the graphics software. Same problem. HDMI to TV works but DVI ports are not recognised

  3. Monitor not recognised

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Sorry to know that you are facing this issue.

    Method 1:
Suggest you to refer to the suggestion by David F from the following link and check if it helps.
No signal found by monitor for HDMI or DVI. Monitor finds VGA signal just fine.

    Method 2:
If the issue persists then suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the latest graphics card driver and check if it helps.
    Uninstall the Device Drivers

    a) Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.

    b) Click on “Device Manager” from that list.

    c) Search for the Graphics Card device from the device list, right click on it and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may select that and then remove
the corrupted drivers from the computer.

    d) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and the restart the computer if prompted.

Let us know if this helps.

Keep us posted for further assistance, we will be glad to help.
