DxDiag Error: Problem Getting Extra Sound Info & Windows App Closing

    Hi all,

I am currently trying to figure out how to fix this error message I keep getting whenever I open dxdiag.

Error: Problem Getting Extra Sound Info

I checked my Sound tabs and there are no issues to be found. Sound works on my system. I even reinstalled Direct X 11.

Does anyone know what the issue may be?

Another issue is whenever I go to Settings-> System-> Sound and
click App Volume and device preferences, the window closes down 5 seconds later.

    Are these issues related?

  3. DxDiag Error: Problem Getting Extra Sound Info & Windows App Closing

    Hi John,

The issues you've encountered is possibly related to each other. Though the sound works fine on your system, there's a possibility that a software conflict may may have triggered these issues. Please run the sound troubleshooter to help fix this problem.
    Follow these steps:

    1. Type in Troubleshoot in Cortana search and select it from the search results.
    2. Select Playing Audio, then Run the troubleshooter.

You may also proceed with updating the driver of your sound card. Here's how:

    1. Right-click the Windows key and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
    3. Right-click your sound card and click
      Properties.
    4. Select the Driver tab, and select Update Driver. If
Windows doesn't find a new driver, look for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

If the issues persists, then please perform the following commands to repair corrupted or missing system files.

    1. Right click the Windows key and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    2. Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth, then hit
Enter. This may take a few minutes to start and up to 30 minutes to run and complete.
    3. Enter sfc /scannow, then hit Enter.
    4. For more information, please check out this link.

If you continue to have this issue even after performing the above steps, please reply to this thread. The system will notify me so I can get back to you and provide you more answers.

    Regards.

    Hi Vanessa,

Thank you for the troubleshooting steps, but unfortunately none of them resolved my issue.

    1. Using the troubleshooter for Playing Audio gives me:
