Windows 10: Dynamic DNS update without an integrated DHCP in a windows DOmain

I am having a network where my Networks device act as DHCP. I would like to configure a windows domain and need to dynamically update DNS entries. I am nor planning a DHCP on windows side. Is there a way we can achieve thisDynamic DNS update without a windows integrated DHCP? If possible what should I specifically need to configure on Domain and DNS side on my AD?

Hi everyone



We’re in a situation that demands for deploying non-AD integrated DNS (I’m refraining myself explaining why to keep the focus to the actual question). It is going to be a member Windows DNS server joined to the AD domain (say abc.com), but would be hosting
disjoint DNS Zones (say xyz.com).



I’m evaluating the downside of doing it when compared to using AD-integrated DNS and identified couple of them as below – would appreciate inputs from the community if there’s anything else that I’m missing out OR correct me if at all the below concerns
are invalid:



Downsides of Deploying non-AD integrated DNS:



1. We compromise on the out-of-the-box AD-integrated replication of DNS and have to build this manually to make the DNS service highly-available.



2. Will the domain (abc.com) joined machines be able to dynamically register ‘A’ records in this DNS server?



I know when the DNS is AD-integrated, the domain joined systems are authenticated and can dynamically register ‘A’ (and other records) in the DNS. However, in this case the DNS server (although the member of the same domain), is hosting
non-AD integrated DNS zones. Will the machines be able to register to DNS zone by default, or some configuration would be needed to all the machines?

(Domain Controllers) dynamic DNS updates configuration of time

We are facing a specific issue in our AD environment :

We have 14 DCs that update their records in two external (linux bind) dns servers using dynamic dns updates.

What we found is all the DCs updates their DNS at the exact same time that sometimes leads to a complete domain unavailability for a few minutes.

Each days, the exact time of these updates seems to be 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00.

I created a monitoring of this behavior using nagios and requesting regulary our DNS how many DCs do you have in your records.

As you can see on the attached picture, it represents, on both DNS, how many DCs they have. Since we have 14 DCs, 28 is the max value.





You can see here the problem that all DCs getting out of DNS system at the same time...

I am wondering how can we configure each DC to update its dynamic dns record at specific time so we can achieve to avoid all DCs out of DNS at 6:00, 12:00 and 18:00

With TeamViewer, you should be able to set it up so the computer it is installed on always notifies your TeamViewer account where it is in the world meaning you don't need any DNS set up.

I use the attached Windows Service to check/update it every 10 minutes. All you have to do is:
1. Extract the zip to Program Files\DDNSU.
2. Edit api.txt where every line is "domain to update|current ip address|URL to update it provided by afraid.org"
3. Edit minutes.txt if you need to. 10 is the default update interval and I don't recommend going lower than that to avoid spamming Afraid's servers.
4. Run install.bat to install the service and start it. The service will automatically start with the system.
