  1. Dynamode HDD enclosure not recognised by Win10

Hi, Jon here. (First post. Running Win10 Pro X64, version 1909, on a Fujitsu desktop which originally ran Win8 - I wiped/reformatted the HDD and did a clean install of W10 from an official ISO). Several years ago I bought a Dynamode HDD enclosure and I connected a 320Gb HDD to it and used it on an older PC (Win7). However, it doesn't work on my current PC at all. I plug it in, connect it, and get an error message "USB port failed to reset". This happens on all the USB ports I try it on. In Device Manager it shows up as "unknown device", and it doesn't appear at all in Disk Manager. Other things do work OK on the USB ports. I dusted off an old spare PC (still running WinXP) and tried it on that - it works fine. Before posting here, I have googled around and tried the most common workarounds, eg Uninstall Device (in dev mgr) and restart the PC, change power management settings on the USB hubs. No joy so far! I'm wondering is there something about the generic USB hub driver (usbhub.sys) in W10 which doesn't support this device? Should I roll back the driver and try an older version? (I have backups of several older versions of this driver, copied from older PCs). Thanks for reading, and thanks for any replies!

    :)

    Welcome to Ten Forums...

Which model do you have? Dynamode have quite a lot to choose from.

I doubt that is your problem. I have two of their USB3.0/SATA enclosures like this one and one USB2.0/SATA/IDE like this. All three work in all my PCs, whether in a USB2 or USB3 port, and whether running W7, W10 or even an Insider Dev W11 build. Here's one of each type in operation, the 'USB Mass Storage Device' is the USB3 SATA one, the 'USB ATA/ATAPI Bridge' is the dual purpose SATA/IDE one.

If you have a dual SATA/IDE type, then note that its cable has two USB connectors. Only one has the full set of USB connections, the secondary one just has power connections in case your drive needs more power that one port can supply. For most drives it can work with just one plugged into the PC - but it has to be the right one *Wink

Ah, it's a 3.5" enclosure, mine are all for 2.5" laptop-size drives. It should use the same adapter circuitry for its ' 'USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge' as my 2.5" one though, so it should still work with your Win10 PC.

    Yours is this one:

    Dynamode Model: USB-HD3.5SI-BN

Are you using it with its external power supply? Your USB ports may not have enough power on their own for a 3.5" HDD.

BTW, it's still a current model, available at PC World amongst other places.
