Defender utilization extremely high since Firefox Quantum update

    Hi Darlene,

    Thanks for your reply.

I didn't try your suggestion because I was having such horrible performance problems with the new Firefox Quantum release.

A little while ago, I uninstalled Quantum from my ThinkPad E545 and reinstalled the previous good release (56.0.2) that I had been running. Performance (cpu & mem usage) has returned to acceptable levels. And Windows Defender is no longer actively running.
I don't even see it running in the background in Task Manager.

Going back to a previous Firefox release may not be the best solution but it was the easiest workaround. I'm going to uninstall Firefox Quantum from my desktop PC which has the worst problem and which I'd originally reported above. I'll add an update/reply
    once I've done that.

  5. Edge was released without the features that other browsers (including IE) already had, therefore it's not really a surprise that it has never become popular.

I have FF 57 on one of my Linux Mint VMs and it seems faster than previous versions.

I'm more than willing to bet this is at least partly because of Chrome's Flash-related shenanigans. I'm a regular on a forum-based site that's rather Flash-heavy and we're fielding questions from Chrome users regarding why Flash isn't working on their end at least every few days if not more. One of the things we suggest is to switch browsers. *Smile

It took a bit to get used to, especially with the change in ABP and NoScript formats, but I'm finding myself liking it quite a bit.

    YES!

No surprise, though, it's really noticeable the difference vs older versions, starts and runs faster, even multimedia is starting to be faster and works in a more stable way.

    Kudos to Mozilla!

I feel sorry for Edge, though, is not a bad browser, and with some handy extensions is quite usable... probably as many said, the lack of features in previews iterations just kept people away from trying it. Firefox is my main, but Edge is not a bad second option.
