    Earphones not working unless I mute then unmute the laptop


    When I connect my wired earphones, I need to press mute and unmute for it to work. The device is detected but I do not hear anything unless I mute the laptop and unmute it. I need to do this every time I restart the laptop. All my drivers are updated. How do I solve this issue?

    Having issue with mute/unmute of laptop

    After a reboot, I can click on the speaker in the system tray and successfully mute/unmute my Lenovo X1 Carbon laptop running Windows 11 (up-to-date). After a day or two, clicking on the speaker in the system tray has NO affect on the mute/unmute status. At this point, I can right-click, open SOUND SETTINGS or VOLUME MIXER, and mute/unmute by clicking on the speaker in that window.

    I am also seeing this same phenomenon on the network and battery icons in the system tray. I cannot click on either to take action, but if I right-click and open NETWORK AND INTERNET SETTINGS or POWER AND SLEEP SETTINGS, I can do whatever I need to do.

    It's more of a nuisance than anything, but would love to hear ideas on how to remedy the situation.
