  1. Easy way to deal with file grouping issues and problems in Windows 11

While I appreciate the thought that went into creating file grouping, it has been a terrible time waste as it seems to turn itself on at random times on folders I have disabled it for. Worse, when I have open dialog boxes and am trying to upload files from folders/directories that have a lot of files in them, I can't simply sort by alphabetical or date because if it has the file grouping by something turned on, there is no way to turn that off in the dialog box when using it to browse the directory. There is no extra view by menu for group to turn it off. Is there any easy way to either disabl

Home group issues in windows 10 creators update

    Hi Danker,

A homegroup is a group of PCs on a home network that can share files and printers with other people in the network. Have you tried to run the homegroup troubleshooter? If not, you may follow the steps below on how to run the homegroup troubleshooter:

    • Press the Windows key, and type Troubleshooting, and press the
      Enter key.
    • At the Troubleshooting window, click View all
      at the left pane.
    • Select Homegroup from the list to start the troubleshooter.

If the issue persists, we suggest you to re-setup homegroup on your network by following the steps on this

  3. Stop File Explorer in Windows 11 from defaulting to Group by Date Modified

I know this is a well-known problem as there are many comments in Feedback Hub and other forums. I'll describe it here briefly for clarity.

Windows 11 File Explorer continuously defaults back to Group by Date Modified. I have made several attempts to set my view in File Explorer to list items in alphabetical order with no grouping of any kind. But if I close File Explorer then reopen it, its contents are listed back in Group by Date Modified. If I set the view to alphabetical, then click on the Options/Folder Options/View "Apply to Folders" button, the list instantly goes back to Group by Date Modified.

    Attempted solutions:

Edit the registry key for "Download" folder view:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\{885a186e-a440-4ada-812b-db871b942259}\TopViews\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}

I do not have proper credentials as Regedit will not let me change anything.

I was attempting to set the GroupBy key to a blank string using double quotes. I also had information suggesting I try inserting "System.ItemNameDisplay" in GroupBy and/or PrimaryProperty and/or SortByList keys. But even after taking ownership of the key, I could not edit.

Anyone have information that I can use?

Sure would be fantastic if someone has actually found a way to fix this.

    Many thanks in advance.

  4. Easy way to deal with file grouping issues and problems in Windows 11

Is there an easy way to change Default File Associations?

I'm trying to change Windows 11's default Notepad app to Notepad++. I changed the default App in Settings > Apps > Default apps > Notepad. Changing the Default App for each file listed under the Notepad app, everything is good.

I looked into the files under the Excel App, and I see ".oqy" and ".rqy" that are still linked to the original Notepad App.

I want every file linked to the original Notepad App to now be linked to Notepad++. Is there an easy way to make sure every file changes? Or do I have to go through every App, one by one, file by file, to make sure all file types change?

    Thanks
