Windows 10: Edge Chromium reverts back to Legacy after restart?

For some strange reason Edge reverts back to an older version of Legacy from the latest version and all my settings and bookmarks are gone. I can reinstall the latest update of Chromium Edge again and all my data is restored and I don't even have to login to all my sites that I have saved on the favorites bar. Issue solved? No. This has happened multiple times and even though I have a temporary solution it will most likely revert to Legacy again and I have to do the process again. It doesn't happen every time I restart but since it has happened more than once it will happen again I think. Why is this happening and what can I do to stop it?

Latest update changes pinned legacy edge shortcut to Edge Chromium

Can anybody who has both legacy Edge and Edge Chromium installed verify this unacceptable behaviour.

I did the regedit to retain Legacy Edge and that works fine, and in apps list I see both Edge Chromium and Legacy Edge.

I pin Legacy Edge to Taskbar and it works fine.

I reboot pc and it CHANGES the pinned shortcut to Edge Chromium - WTF!!!

I tried pinning both and it still changes short cut on Taskbar to Edge Chromium.

I tried to create a new shortcut for Legacy Edge using tutorial, and put it on my desktop. I RENAMED the shortcut, and it works fine. I pin it to Taskbar, reboot and it gets bloody changed to Chromium.

This change has happened since most recent update. Before, it would do change it when you updated and only a minor inconvenience.

I cannot find a way of pinning legacy Edge to taskbar now.

Anybody have any ideas how to get round this reprehensible change?

* We have installed edge chromium 84.0.522.63 offline installer and it has upgraded the inbuilt microsoft edge.

* Current edge chromium 84.0.522.63 got upgraded automatically after an update edg chromium 86.0.622.38 has got installed from windows update.

*But this time once the update got installed, it has created duplicate edge chromium shortcut on the task bar.





*we have unpinned the second one manually but after restart it has come back again.



*One thing we noticed it that, when we launch the edge (edge chromium) browser, the duplicate edge chromium shortcut on the task bar is getting removed by itself..





*but once the device is restarted, we can see the edge chromium duplicate shortcut is back.

we can see inconsistent behaviors here with the edge chromium.

*Please check and help about how to get this duplicate task bar edge chromium shortcut removed permanently.

 

Microsoft Edge

I'm Jin, a fellow Windows 10 user and an independent advisor. I can see that you wish to revert back the version of your Microsoft Edge.

You can get back to the old Legacy Microsoft Edge by following the steps below:

1. Open Settings.

2. Select Apps.

3. Look for Microsoft Edge and click on it.

4. Click the Uninstall button.

By uninstalling Edge Chromium, Edge will revert back to the old Microsoft Edge.
