Windows 10: Edge shortcut on taskbar keeps changing after a day or two...

So, when I just pin Edge to the taskbar, from the taskbar, it doesn't have the option in the right-click popup menu for opening a private window.


I got around this by pinning Edge from the Start menu to the taskbar instead, all good. Then has the option to open a private window from the taskbar icon.

The problem is that the shortcut reverts back to the "pinned from taskbar" type after a day or two, and the option to open a private window is gone from the right-click menu.


What's the deal here? It's definitely something weird going on because, also, the Start menu pinned shortcut is just a plain old fashioned shortcut and it opens Edge in a new taskbar icon, whereas the "pinned from taskbar" icon on the taskbar holds all the opened Edge windows in it.

They're two completely different things, but Windows just seems to replace one with the other.


It's quite strange and really annoying!


In short the pinned from Start menu shortcut gets replaced with the pinned from taskbar shortcut, which acts differently, after a day or so..


EDIT:

Ideally, I'd like it to be a mix of the two, a taskbar icon that keeps all the edge tabs together in it, and also has the right-click popup menu with an option to open a private window. Which would seem like normal taskbar icon behaviour.

Edge Shortcut disappeared

That does NOT put the shortcut in the TASKBAR, it puts it in the Edge Favorites Bar !!!!!!!

As per the issue description you are unable to add a shortcut to the taskbar in Windows 10. You are right that there is no option to pin the shortcut to the taskbar. However, you should be able to drag and drop the shortcut to the taskbar. If you are unable
to do that try the steps provided below and see if it helps you to fix the issue.

• Open the network connection page by clicking on the shortcut.
• Once that page is open, you could see the same in the taskbar.
• Now, right click on the icon of network connection in the taskbar which is representing your shortcut.
• Select the option pin to the taskbar.
• Now the shortcut will be pinned to the taskbar.
