I hope you're doing well and having a great day.If I remove the label of my system partition, it is automatically reassigned on next boot. Is there a way to remove it so it doesn't get reassigned on boot?Thank you.

I hope you're doing well and having a great day.

If I remove the label of my system partition, it is automatically reassigned on next boot. Is there a way to remove it so it doesn't get reassigned on boot?

  3. lost boot and system partition!!

    Hi,

My name is Rogelio. I am an Independent Advisor. Thanks for contacting our support.

Even if a partition contains bootable data, your computer might sometimes fail to detect it as a suitable bootable partition. This is usually due to the fact that, to be recognized by your computer as a bootable partition, a partition does not only need to
contain a bootable environment, it also needs to be specifically marked as an active system partition. You can add that active marker to a hard drive partition by using Diskpart, a command-line disk management application that is built into Windows.

    Step 1

Open the Windows Start screen and type "cmd." Right-click on the "Command-Line Prompt" shortcut and select "Run as administrator."

    Step 2

Type "diskpart" and press the "Return" key. Diskpart will now launch. While Diskpart is active, the traditional command-line prompt will be replaced by a Diskpart prompt, indicating that any command you enter will be processed by that application.

    Step 3

Enter "list disk" and press the "Return" key. Note the number assigned to the drive which contains the partition you wish to make bootable. You can find that number in the first column.

    Step 4

Type "select disk X", replacing "X" with the number assigned to the relevant drive. Press the "Enter" key.

    Step 5

Enter "list partition" and press the "Return" key. Note the number assigned to the partition you want to make bootable.

    Step 6

Type "select partition X", replacing "X" with the number of the partition you want to select. Press the "Enter" key.

    Step 7

Enter "active" and press the "Return" key to instruct Diskpart to mark that partition as an active, bootable partition.

    Step 8

Type "exit," followed by the "Return" key, to exit Diskpart. Close the Command-Line Prompt window.

  4. [Edit: Solved] System partition is assigned a label on every boot.

Bootmgr image is corrupt. System can not boot.

In Windows Recovery Environment disk partitions sometimes get different letters assigned, but this doesn't matter when Windows is booted normally. The BCD understands which one to assign to drive C: for Windows when it boots.

Is your PC booting OK now? It should be fine to let BootRec run as it is, even though it seems odd that it says drive D: at the moment.

EDIT: If not, you can run other commands to fix it.

diskpart will let you view and assign drive letters to the partitions. You can switch the Windows partition to drive C: if you want while you fix things. I usually assign S: to the System partition on a GPT disk and C: for the Windows partition. If your
computer has Legacy mode BIOS with an MBR initialized hard disk, things will be done differently than I show below:

Bootsect.exe updates the master boot code for hard disk partitions. You can use this tool to restore the boot

    sector on your computer.

    • If System is S: and C: is Windows
      • bootsect /nt60 S: /force /mbr
      • bootsect /help will explain all of the options
The bcdboot.exe command-line tool is used to copy critical boot files to the system partition and to create a new system BCD store.

    • Assuming S: is System and C: is Windows, the command below should fix the boot menu if needed:
      • bcdboot C:\Windows /s S: /f ALL
