  2. Getting windows ready don't turn off your computer mesg.

For those with AMD computers there are some changes.

As I mentioned previously I did a system restore to the point saved before the first update that put the system in the updating loop. That got my system running again (twice). I left it off the internet since then until this morning I am back on and it appears
to have installed some updates. However I am not sure if the security update that caused the problem has been installed.

I read here MS stopped the AMD update on Jan 9:

Windows emergency Meltdown patch: Microsoft stops update for AMD PCs after crash reports

I read here it is fixed now for AMD:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...te-for-amd-devices-in-windows-10-version-1709

KB4073290 Fixes Meltdown & Spectre Patch Bugs on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

So I am leaving my system on the internet today and hopefully it will keep running. My system does not show awaiting updates when I check for updates.

I don't really know if the security update has been installed or not or if I will be back in the update loop in the morning. I am just giving the latest for the AMD users.

PS If you use the start 3 times fix to get your system back, when you tell us it worked tell us what chip you have ie Intel or AMD.

I will definitely make an image before applying the second Windows Patch which is supposed to be out tomorrow. Intel is making me quite upset about this as it seems that EVERY PC has a vulnerability and they are not talking about it.

  5. I ran into this very problem earlier today with an old HP laptop running a toasty old Athlon X2 CPU. After a fresh install of Windows 10 I was planning to use it for playing around with the latest Windows Insider release but KB4056892 has stopped me in my tracks for the reasons reported above. Windows successfully installs the patch but then hangs on the restart. Removing the patch (or stopping it from installing in the first place) seems to be the only way to restore functionality.

It's no big deal as the laptop is not my main computer but now I'm wondering if Windows Insider Preview 17063 is going to suffer from exactly the same problem, in which case I'll probably just wait until Microsoft patches the patch!

I had the same problem on an Athlon X2 CPU. I had to invoke Automatic Repair to revert the update. I've now hidden the update using the method in this tutorial Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

I'll unblock the update when I hear MS bother to fix the problem they should have spotted if their QA was any good. I saw another post on the forum today saying MS has now suspended the update for these CPUs anyway.

@Steve C - can you supply a link to that other post please. Having a machine with that issue I'm following most of them but can't find the info saying that MS has suspended the update. and I'd like let all my machines go for the next (Patch Tuesday) CU on which is due imminently. Thanks
UPDATE: Never mind - @Brink has posted it! Thank you @Brink*Thumbs
