Windows 10: Empty folders with Korean names is popping up in my OneDrive in Win11 laptop

Hi there!!!I recently came across a strange problem with my OneDrive on Win11 laptop. Everything has been fine for years till this date. Today, I noticed a weird folder in my OneDrive, the name of the folder seems to be in Korean symbol. But it can also be Chinese or Japanese, I can't tell for sure. It just popped up.I started Googling and came across a thread where another user also came across the same issue. However, they figured out that some Chinese hacking had led to the problem. Random Korean folders showing up on my onedrive

1. What is the version of your OneDrive sync client? Are you using OneDrive for Business or OneDrive personal?

I am using the educational version. All i did was signup at onedrive.com using my university email address. that is all i know I am not near the PC to check since i am at the school doing homework

2. Did it create one folder for one time when you access OneDrive sync folder?

Nope. it created multiple folders. Sometimes in the hundreds.

3. Are the names of the folders the same as the ones in your OneDrive sync folder?

No. They are all in Korean.

Besides resetting, what else should i try?

Windows 10 Laptop won't show Korean Properly...

Hi,

I have tried all of the suggestions, however, I cannot view the .html file in Korean. Also, I need to buy a plane ticket in a Korean website, but the website has a pop up that will show the Korean words in ?????????'s. Please help me!

 

Rename folder to OneDrive asks Confirm Replacement with another folder

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Based on your description, we suggest that you can do it all over again as follows:

• Open OneDrive settings on your computer.
  
• Go to the "Accounts" tab and click on "Unlink this computer".
  
• Restart your computer.
  
• Delete the D:/OldOneDrive folder.
  

You can try renaming the old OneDrive folder to something else, then create a new OneDrive folder and set it as a local folder in the OneDrive app.

If the above does not work, then you can try the following steps:

• Open a "Command Prompt" on your computer (run as administrator).
  
• Type rd /s /q "D:\OldOneDrive" and press Enter.
  

This will delete the "OldOneDrive" folder and all its contents.

• Create a new folder in D:/ and name its OneDrive.
  
• Open the OneDrive application and log in.
  
• During the setup process, choose to change the OneDrive folder location to D:/OneDrive.
  

Please note that this will permanently delete the "OldOneDrive" folder and all its contents, so please ensure that you have backed up all your important data.
