Windows 10: Empty Spaces Where there should be icons.

The issues is that depending on the sorting of my icons on my desktop there are couple of empty spaces where icons should be placed. The only sorting method not affected is "sort by item type". I have "align to grid" turned on as I want them to be organized in such a fashion and "auto arrange" turned off as I want to arrange them myself. However, whenever I may put something on my desktop and resort them it always puts in the spaces which has become quite annoying as there is no inclination as to why it is occurring and what is in that spot if anything at all.This image is what it looks like i

Freely moving desktop icons in windows 10

I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

• Right click on the blank space on desktop.
• Click on View.
• Uncheck Align icons to grid.

Icon spacing

This is how I did:

1. Right click on desktop->Display Settings and set it 150%. NOTE: If you have dual monitors, click on other monitor and do the same.
   
   
   
2. Control Panel->Display->Set a custom scaling level, again set it to 150%, Change the text size for each item: Menu, Title, icon etc... then click apply

As initial recommendation, we suggest following these steps to change the icon size:

• Right-click on an empty space on your desktop.
• Select View.
• Choose Medium icons or Small icons, whichever you prefer more.
  

Additionally, you can change the display size of texts and other items by following these steps:

• Right-click on an empty space on your desktop.
• Click Display settings.
• Under Change the size of text, apps, and other items, drag the slider over to 100%.
  
• If the slider is already on 100%, click Advanced display settings.
• Under Resolution, choose the Recommended option from the drop-down choices.
