    Enable File Auditing? Trying To Open a Program When Another is Closed.


    Okay, not sure if this is the correct subforum (i figured it was either this one or Software & Apps), but here's what I'm trying to do.

    I have a game launcher set, from within it's own settings, to automatically close when launching a game. What I'd like to do is automatically reopen the launcher once the game is closed.

    I figured the easiest way, if I could get it to work, would be to use Windows Task Manager and set it to trigger on a specific event, but there are no events created when opening or closing the game. I tried to enable auditing for the game.exe, in the hopes that it would start adding events to the event viewer, but with no success.

    What I did was -
    1. Right click on game.exe
    2. Choose Properties
    3. Select Security
    4. Select Advanced
    5. Select Auditing
    6. Click Add
    7. Click Select a Principal
    8. Type "Users" and select Check names
    9. Click OK
    10. Select Type: All
    11. Select all check boxes
    12. OK, OK, OK

    Like I said though, this doesn't add anything into the Event Viewer, so I can't create a task in Task Manager to trigger off of an event.

    Anyone have any suggestions on how I can accomplish this?

    I'd like to steer clear of batch files and, in general, anything 3rd party that has to be continuously running in the background, if at all possible.

    I can't delete a file

    Hi Sara,

    If you're trying to delete a file and your computer isn't letting you, it's most likely because another program is currently trying to use the file. This can occur even if you don't see any programs running. Deleting these files is usually a matter of forcing
    the program that's using the file to close. Be careful when doing this; deleting the wrong file can have bad effects on your system. Have you tried closing all your open programs before deleting the file?
