How to: Enable or Disable AutoPlay for Non-volume Devices in Windows

Enable or Disable AutoPlay for Non-volume Devices in Windows [IMG]
Information AutoPlay lets you choose an action for different kinds of media when you plug in a device or insert media. You can set AutoPlay to open different kinds of content, such as photos, music, and video on different kinds of media, such as drives, CDs, DVDs, cameras, and phones. For example, you can use AutoPlay to select an app that will automatically open photos on a removable drive when you plug it into your PC. With AutoPlay, you don't have to open the same app or reselect preferences every time you plug in a certain device.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable AutoPlay for non-volume devices like cameras or phones for all users in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to enable or disable AutoPlay for non-volume devices.

Disable AutoPlay when audio devices connected

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To have a clarity on the issue and guide you accordingly, kindly help us with the following information:

    • Which build of Windows 10 is installed on the machine?

(Search winver from the Start menu to know the same)

The issue could be because of the AutoPlay option being enabled on the device. I suggest you to disable
AutoPlay for all media and devices and see if the issue persists.

    • Open Settings and click on Devices.
    • On the left pane, choose AutoPlay.
    • Toggle off Use AutoPlay for all media and devices,
      and exit Settings.
    • Reconnect the speaker to see if the media files continue to play.

    Regards,

If as suggested here, the end result is exactly the same registry change, there is no difference.

You can test that for yourself using a free utility called regshot. This takes a snapshot of the registry; you then make the change; take a second snapshot, then compare them.

All changes made between the two are listed.

    Easy enable/disable microphone?

My bro just got a microphone and I was wondering if there's an easy way to enable or disable it. I know you can right click on the volume icon, click on select recording devices then select the microphone, then click properties, then click on levels, and mute it - but that's just way too many steps, I'm looking for a more obvious and much easier way to do it.
