How to Enable or Disable Quick Find in Firefox

Firefox includes a Find in This Page (Ctrl+F) feature that allows you to search for words and phrases on the page of a website you are viewing in Firefox. Firefox will show you where the search phrase you've typed appears next on the page, and lets you highlight all the places where it appears.

Firefox also include a Quick Find feature that is useful for quick searches and is meant to disappear after a few moments. It does not have the Next, Previous, or Highlight All buttons like the full Find bar.

Press the / key (forward slash character) to open the Quick Find bar at the bottom. Then type what you would like to search for. Press F3 or Ctrl+G to highlight the next item that contains your search phrase. Press Shift+F3 or Shift+Ctrl+G to highlight the previous item that contains your search phrase.

Press the ' key (single quote character) to open the Quick Find (links only) bar at the bottom to find phrases that occur in links on the page you're viewing. Press Ctrl+G to highlight the next link that contains your search phrase. Press Shift+F3 or Shift+Ctrl+G to highlight the previous link that contains your search phrase.

Starting with Firefox 63.0, you can disable the Quick Find feature if you find it annoying.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable the Quick Find feature in Firefox for your account in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

Enable or Disable Quick Find in Firefox

    In File Explorer Quick Access

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, we would need some information.

    1. What exactly do you mean by “old firefox”?

Quick Access is basically showing you folders that you frequently used, and showing you files that you’ve recently accessed.

If you want to clear the files from file history, you can right click on the file and click on 'Remove from Quick Access"

I suggest you refer the below steps to clear file history.

    1. Click Start and type: file explorer options and hit Enter or click the option at the top of the search results.
    2. Now in the Privacy section make sure both boxes are checked for recently used files and folder in Quick Access and click the Clear button.

    Cookies
are stored on your computer by websites you visit and contain information such as site preferences or your login status, refer this article on

  6. Quick Access Not Working

    Hi Dustin,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Follow the below steps to repair the broken database of Quick Access.

    Method 1:

Before repairing the database, try to disable and then re-enable Quick Access to see if it helps. To disable and re-enable Quick Access, follow the below steps:

Step 1: To remove frequent folders and recent files list from Quick Access, open File Explorer > click on View tab in Ribbon >
click on Options > Change folder and search options to open Folder Options.

Step 2: You’ll have to uncheck the following two check-boxes present under the Privacy section to disable Quick Access:

    • Show recently used files in Quick Access.
    • Show frequently used folders in Quick Access.

Step 3: Click Apply and Exit. The action will instantly remove these two sections from Quick Access in File Explorer. (To clear your Quick Access history press the ‘Clear’ button against Clear File Explorer History).

    Step 4: Then, check
the following two check-boxes again to enable Quick Access that you did in
    Step2.

    • Show recently used files in Quick Access.
    • Show frequently used folders in Quick Access.

Step 5: Restart the PC once and check the issue and if the issue persist, follow the
    Method 2.

    Method 2:

The Method 2 will repair the broken database of Quick Access.

Step 1: Open File Explorer and paste this folder path: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations in the address bar and hit Enter.

Step 2: Once the folder is opened, press ‘Ctrl’ key and the ‘A’ from your keyboard to select all of its contents and delete it.

Step 3: Do the same for this folder path as well: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations

Step 4: Restart the PC once and check the issue.

    Hope it helps.
