How to Enable or Disable SMS Sync with Skype Preview in Windows 10 PC and Mobile


Information Starting with Windows 10 Insider build 14926, you can now send and receive SMS text messages from the updated Skype Preview app on your Windows 10 PC and Windows 10 Mobile phone.

The SMS relay feature is part of this update, and allows users to send and receive SMS and MMS messages directly from a Windows 10 PC when Skype on your Windows 10 Mobile is set as the default messaging app. No need to reach for your phone, you can view new messages as they arrive and respond to messages from your computer. Send and receive texts, group messages, and photos all in one app with a single view of your SMS and Skype conversations.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable SMS sync in the Skype app for your Windows 10 PC and Windows 10 Mobile phone to send and receive SMS text messages.



Note You will need to be signed in with the same Microsoft account (MSA) on your Windows 10 PC and Windows 10 Mobile phone to be able sync and send and receive SMS text messages from the PC.


CONTENTS:

• Option One: To Enable SMS Sync in Skype Preview app on Windows 10 PC and Phone
• Option Two: To Disable SMS Sync in Skype Preview app on a Windows 10 PC
• Option Three: To Disable SMS Sync in Skype Preview app on Windows 10 Mobile Phone

EXAMPLE: Skype Preview app SMS on Windows 10 PC and Mobile phone








OPTION ONE [/i] To Enable SMS Sync in Skype Preview app on Windows 10 PC and Phone
1. On your Windows 10 Mobile phone, open the Skype Preview app, and tap on the Settings button. (see screenshot below)



2. If Skype is not the default SMS application on your Windows 10 Mobile phone, then click/tap on the Change default SMS application link. (see screenshot below)




A) Click/tap on yes to make Skype the default SMS application on your Windows 10 Mobile phone. (see screenshot below)




3. If Skype is set as the default SMS application on your Windows 10 Mobile phone, then make sure SMS backup and sync is currently turned on (enabled). (see screenshots below)





4. You can now click/tap on the Start *Start button at the bottom of your Windows 10 Mobile phone to go back to the Start screen if you like. (see screenshot below)



5. On your Windows 10 PC, open the Skype Preview app, and tap on the Settings button. (see screenshot below)



6. If SMS sync is currently turned off on your Windows 10 PC, then click/tap on the Enable link. (see screenshot below)



7. You will now be able to send and receive SMS text messages in the Skype Preview app directly on your Windows 10 PC by relaying with your Windows 10 Mobile phone.





OPTION TWO [/i] To Disable SMS Sync in Skype Preview app on a Windows 10 PC
1. On your Windows 10 PC, open the Skype Preview app, and tap on the Settings button. (see screenshot below)



2. If SMS sync is currently turned on for your phone under SMS settings, then click/tap on the Disable link. (see screenshot below)



3. You will no longer be able to send and receive SMS text messages in the Skype Preview app directly on this Windows 10 PC.





OPTION THREE [/i] To Disable SMS Sync in Skype Preview app on Windows 10 Mobile Phone


Note This will prevent all Windows 10 PCs from being able to sync with Skype Preview on your Windows 10 Mobile phone to send and receive SMS text messages on the PCs.


1. On your Windows 10 Mobile phone, open the Skype Preview app, and tap on the Settings button. (see screenshot below)



2. If SMS backup and sync is currently turned on under SMS settings, then tap on the Disable link. (see screenshot below)



3. If you would like to change the default SMS application on your phone back to the Messaging app instead of Skype, then tap on the Change default SMS application link. (see screenshot below)




A) Select Microsoft Messaging under Default apps. (see screenshot below)




4. You can now click/tap on the Start *Start button at the bottom of your phone to go back to the Start screen if you like. (see screenshot below)



5. Windows 10 PCs will no longer be able to sync with this Windows 10 Mobile phone to directly send and receive SMS text messages in the Skype Preview app.

SMS from my W10 Pro?

You need to download first the Skype Preview application on your PC
and Windows Phone. Then set the Skype Preview application as the default SMS application on your Windows phone, and enable SMS sync in Skype Preview on both of your Windows phone and Windows 10 PC.

To sync your Windows phone and Windows 10 PC, follow these steps:

Windows Phone:

• 
  Open the
  Skype Preview
  app, and tap on the
  Settings
  button.
  
• 
  Click/tap on the
  Change default SMS application
  link.
  
• 
  Click/tap on
  "Yes"to
  make Skype your default SMS application on your Windows 10
  phone (make sure
  SMS backup and sync is currently turned on or enabled)
  

Windows 10 PC:

• 
  Open the
  Skype Preview
  app, and tap on the
  Settings
  button.
  
• 
  If
  "SMS sync is currently turned off",click/tap
  on the Enable.
  

To send an SMS in Skype Preview app on Windows 10 PC:

• 
  click on the
  Start a conversation
  button or
  New conversation
  icon.
  
• 
  Select
  or check the contact you want send a message, click/tap on
  Start.
  
• 
  Verify that you have the contact's
  SMS
  phone number selected in the
  Send via
  menu.
  
• 
  Test sending an SMS to see if it is now working.
