Enabling BitLocker early during SSD upgrade

I want to upgrade my Windows 11 Dell laptop from a 512GB SSD to a 1TB SSD.As the system partition is BitLocker-encrypted factory configuration, I can't go for a disk cloning approach, even with Samsung's excellent Data Migration tool that I've successfully in many HDD->SSD or SSD->SSD upgrade scenarios. So, I'm going to go for the following approach:1. create an ERD Emergency Repair Disk, a.k.a. Recovery Disk bootable USB disk containing OS and drivers2. create a System Image Backup3. install the OS onto the new SSD using the ERD4. restore applications and data from the System ImageTh

  2. Bitlocker Randomly Enabled

    Hi,

On my personal Lenovo laptop, Bitlocker somehow randomly was enabled. I have not enabled it, and I followed the recovery steps without luck. It seems that it was enabled during an update. I logged into my Microsoft account, see that the laptop is listed, but there is no bitlocker key listed. I am at a loss on what the next steps might be for me to be able to log into my computer at this point.

  3. Clone Bitlocker enable drive to SSD

Hello, I received a new Samsung 860 EVO SSD and want to clone my current HDD to my new SSD. There's one small problem. My laptop came pre-enabled with Device Encryption also know as Bitlocker. It originally came with Windows 10 Home but I upgraded it
to pro so i have all options available. I was about to clone it when Macrium reflect said that bitlocker would be disabled on the new drive and that i would have to reenable it. How can i clone the HDD to my new SSD and keep bitlocker enabled without bitlocker
    flipping out?

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

Heed the advice of the software, you must disable BitLocker before cloning. This is highly recommend if you ever want to get access to the drive.

There is nothing wrong with having to re-enable it after restoring the clone.

    Step 1: disable BitLocker.

    Step 2: clone drive

Step 3: restore the cloned image to the new drive.

    Step 4: Re-Enable BitLocker.
