Windows 10: Enabling HDR has messed up my displays

I use a an alienware ultrawide not HDR capable as my main monitor. I connected an LG OLED as the 2nd display and all was working ok, but then with the LG set as my main display I toggled on HDR, this caused my display to flash and both to stop displaying an image.I disconnected the LG OLED and went back into display option on the Alienware LCD, but the HDR toggle is gone and replaced with this:I am unable to turn HDR off, plugging in the OLED causes both display to not work with no signal to the OLED and a blank screen on the alienware.I have tried deleting these 3 folders in the registry to

I truly understand you really like enable HDR of your computer. The possible cause why it’s not working maybe your PC and display doesn’t meet certain hardware requirements.

I suggest to update your windows first, please follow the steps below:

• Start > and then go to Setting > Update & Security > Windows Update

Cannot Enable HDR

The HDR option does not appear in 'Display' settings.

I am using:

Intel UHD 630 Integrated Graphics

Cardas HDMI cable

LG 27UK650 Monitor

The LG monitor's HDR works with a Playstation 4 Pro and Cardas HDMI cable.

The LG monitor has no manual HDR setting. It only enters HDR mode when it receives proper signal, first.

Windows 10 only offers HDR setting when it receives proper signal from the display, first.

How can HDR be force-enabled on Windows 10?

 

HDR capability not detected by some games. Like games using the Frostbite engine.

The Xbox feature in Windows 11 will automatically enable HDR (provided you have a graphics card with minimum performance requirements). In fact, Battlefield 1 and 5 games support HDR, so if your PC has HDR enabled automatically, the game will be enabled by default.

Given your situation so far, I would suggest you check here to calibrate your monitor's HDR functionality and troubleshoote that aspect.

Then turn on the "Auto HDR" setting by following these steps:

1. Select the Start button, then enter settings.select Settings > System > Display.
   
2. If you have multiple displays, select your HDR-capable display at the top.
   
3. Turn on Use HDR, then select More options.
   
4. Turn on Auto HDR.
   
5. Go back to the game to see if HDR is enabled.
   

On the other hand, go to Start - Settings -Windows Update - Update History to see what updates have been installed recently and I can help you check the update history to see if any recent updates have reported issues with HDR.
