enabling Hyper-V / Virtualization in Windows 10 has resulted in an unbootable desktop

I enabled Hyper-V and Virtualization support.

After allowing the reboot, my machine immediately launches into an instant error message. The error code remains the same, 0xc000000f. However the diagnostic text alternates between describing “a required hardware component is missing or unavailable” and “the file \windows\system32\winload.efi is missing or contains errors” (paraphrased slightly).

I have the USB stick I used to reinstall Windows [frustratingly] recently, so I used that to troubleshoot. None of the options available, such as using a system restore point or going into a cmd window and copying the winload.efi from the install media to the target OS drive fix this problem. To make matters worse, Safe Mode is unavailable from any of the troubleshooting options.

If there was just a way to enter Safe Mode and then disable Hyper-V, or a documented way to do so from the cmd prompt, this might be fixable.

I really, really do not relish the idea of reinstalling everything, again. I have software that requires DRM and has a limited number of authorizatins, and without access to the existing install I cannot deauthorize it in order to reallocate the authorization. I already lost one authorization to the last debacle. I also have sound libraries that, collectively, will require days to reinstall. If I have to rebuild this machine yet again, I am looking at three days of lost productivity.

I at least seem to have access to the file system via the recovery command prompt and can backup user files. Otherwise I would be facing a second month of bandiwdth overage and my ISP would send me yet another nastygram threatening as much an extra $200 in service charges as I attempt to restore from cloud backup.

if Microsoft cannot provide a viable solution, here, they need to redisign the recovery tools such that disasterous feature enables such as this do not cost a machine rebuild. A machine rebuild is not merely reinstalling the OS and there you go, for some of us, but a major undertaking.

    :)
